My appreciation for Perk has grown immensely tonight after seeing Dwight Howard manhandle every Cavs' big man. I don't think there is anyone in the league who plays Howard as well as Perk does.

And speaking of the Cavs, have z, Delonte and Mo Williams spit the bit tonight or what?

Yeah, Perk is worthy of making the All-Defense team.  Relative to his position, I think he's the second best defender we have.

I was gonna say the same thing--Howard just physically dominated the Cavs all night. They couldn't stop him. Lebron blocked one dunk, and then 30 second later Howard banged him under the basket and dunked on his head. All I could think while I was watching Howard play was "wow, Perkins made this superstar look like an average player".
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

Interesting to watch Howard trying to pound away at Perk in the post and Howard was just bouncing off. Perk did not budge. Amazing.

Yeah, the more Howard scored in this game the more I thought "Wow, Perk's defense was really really GREAT"! What a difference when Howard is defended by Ilgauskas...

You could see it with Perk when he was playing in the summer league.  He was usually the guy telling everyone what to do.  He's smart.  He learns. He works hard. He's a very good guy to build an interior defense around.  I'm glad he was given the opportunity to develop.  And what is he, 24?

I'm glad that the announcers mentioned Perkins defense three times that I noticed as Howard shredded the Cavs in the paint. Kept saying, he couldn't do that against Boston because Perkins kept a body on him.

"Kept a body on him" isn't nearly enough to describe how excellent Perk was, but still nice to hear!

If Perk and Howard got into a fight, I'm convinced Howard would get beaten bad.

Perk has way more fight in him. He is very very physically AND MENTALLY tough.

All the more reason to think that had the C's been healthy, we could have easily beaten the Magic and obviously give the Cavs fits...I hope and pray for no more injury bug for next yr and I also hope PP gets his speed and legs back, I keep thinkin that our Captain has lost a step or two due to this bone spur thing doc was talkin about.

Turns out that running hook is actually an OK shot when Perk isn't pushing him back 3-5 feet over the course of the move.  The difference was striking tonight.

Cavs are the better team on paper but Orlando creates a lot of matchup problems, Howard being one of them.  It'll be interesting to see how they adjust in Game 2.

Perk is the best defensive center in the NBA period. Howard is a quality shot blocker and help defender but Perk was eating him up offensively with baby hooks, drop steps, even fadeaways. The Perk-KG tandem reminds me alot of the Admiral-Duncan combo that dominated defensively. His versatility defensively is also underrated. I remember Jeff Van Gundy saying how he was surprised that Perk was guarding Lamar Odom in the Finals but in the end I don't remember Odom having much of an impact in that series. Granted KG and Perk took turns guarding him. Howard and the rest of the NBA better watch out next year when Perk will start getting the "benefit-of-the-doubt" calls defensively.

I am truly amazed and proud of where Perk is now as opposed to where he was just two years ago. As great as he is as a defender his biggest improvement was seen on the offensive end. He was always fumbling the pass or getting stripped down low or would never convert an offensive rebound to points.

The emergence of Rondo and Perk will offset any decline (if any) from the Big 3. I expect Boston to be the only team in the NBA to have all 5 starters average double figures next year. Our offense will become as diverse and confusing as our defense. I truly expect next year barring injury, will be the best team of the new Big 3 Era. The combination of the financial troubles of some teams and a relatively solid crop of free agents available will mean that we will have the chance to sign some quality bench guys on the cheap. Finance 101...excess supply + lower demand = lower market price.
