I think the lottery is Bogus. Shady Shady Shady. Cleveland gets Lebron James Wow big Surprise. This Year Blake to L.A.

This year also after the announcer said only one guy knows whats in the envelope. He admitted Chris Webber already knew the results. The only sport that does it this way and I don't like it.

I think at most there should be 3 teams with a shot at the #1 pick. If you want to tank your season for a top three pick than go ahead.

Give me some ides people anything but how it's currently constructed. TP's for good Ideas.

I think all 14 teams should have a chance at any spot in the initial 14 spots in the draft.

Each team gets a set of numbers, computer starts picking at 1, and the first time your number is called, that's your pick. If your number is drawn again, the computer picks again.

And is it any surprise that Webber choked?

Here are the #1 Picks dating back to 1988. Tell me how many guys are worth Tanking your season for.

88 Danny Manning
Nervous Pervis
D Coleman
Grand Ma ma
Shaq
C Webb
Glen Big Dog
Joe Smith
Iverson
Timmy!
Kandiman
Brand
K Mart
Kwame
Yao
Bron
Dwight
Bogut
Bargnani
Oden
Rose

I would tank a season If I knew I was certain to get the #1pick for Lebron, Dwight, Shaq, Webber , and Duncan for sure,

Yao maybe, Iverson No. So that's five guys out of 21 years worth tanking for.  Not that big of a problem 1 out of every 4 years there is (that guy) in the draft. And there is almost never three guys worth tanking for, which is why I say Do a three team Lottery.

Tp Jssad. that's my greater point it's just a way to manipulate

the system. Can't believe more people don't see this. It's too obvious.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Last 7 years:

Yao- termed by many in the NBA to be the "most dominant big man" in league.
Bron- THis year's MVP
Dwight Howard-probably most talented big man in NBA
Bogut- very good starting center, good shot at all star appearance in next 2-3 years, just plays for a bad team
Bargnani-looks like a middle of the pack kinda player, probably will go down as a bust
Oden-Oft injured Benjamin Button lookin center of the future. Some say bust, some don't..too soon to tell.
Derrick Rose-obviously the Rookie of the Year this season, and in a season where many rookies played an important role for playoff teams/teams that just missed the bubble

My point was that everyone one but 2 of the last 7 1st rd draft picks are either elite players or at the very least cornerstones of their franchises.

Changes I'd like to see:

1) Televise the lottery.  I know it's a more complicated process than picking a ball with a team name out of it, but I'm sure fans could figure it out.

2) Randomize the numbers associated with a team's chances, rather than having them go in numerical order.  I'm sure a lot of people don't know what I'm talking about, but right now, there are 1001 potential four-digit lottery combinations that can be drawn.  Sacramento had 250 chances, but those chances weren't random.  Instead, Sacramento got all of the combinations that had a "1" in them, and I believe some of the "2"s.  Why go in order like that?  With computers, it would be very easy to randomize, and would end any suggestion that by manipulating the right ball, the NBA could guarantee who got the #1 pick.

3) Give all teams with the five worst records equal chances, then teams #6 - #15 with a smaller number of chances, then teams #16 - #30 with an even smaller number of chances.

Here's a crazy, off the wall idea.....how about the team with the worst record actually gets the first pick, the team with the second worst record gets the second pick, the third the third pick and so on all the way down the line.

I hope that's not too radical of an idea.

I like the lottery, honestly.  It's entertaining, and it helps limit tanking.  Can you imagine how much tanking would have taken place if Duncan or Lebron had gone to the team with the worst record?

Danny Manning- Fluke injuries, without which he would have been a player worth tanking for.
Nervous Pervis- not worth it
D Coleman- Is it not worth tanking to pick up a guy who in hist first 5 years in the league is going to average 20-10? If not, it was surely worth it to nab Gary Payton.
Grand Ma ma- Another 20-10 PF, but this ones career was derailed by injuries, is it not worth it to tank for that level of talent? If not, how about Mutumbo?
Shaq- No question.
C Webb- No question.
Glen Big Dog- If not him, then Hill or Kidd?
Joe Smith- Granted, but it wouldn't have been worth it to nab Garnett, or even McDyess and Sheed in their primes?
Iverson- Or just about anyone of the other elite players. Iverson took a team to the finals on his own.
Timmy!- No question.
Kandiman- Uhh oops, but Carter in his prime may have been worth tanking for.
Brand- And BDiddy
K Mart- No one should have tanked for this draft.
Kwame- No, but Gasol was.
Yao- No question
Bron- No Question
Dwight- No Question
Bogut- No, but Deron Williams and Chris Paul were.
Bargnani- oops
Oden- Jury is out, But Durant was.
Rose- No question.

I included players from the top 5 in each draft because usually the top 5, excluding this class and 2000, is where the talent difference is perceived as the the thinnest. So while Andrew Bogut may not have been worth submarining your season for, the opportunity to draft Deron Williams and Chris Paul sure as heck was.

Agreed. I'm not sure why I feel this way, but I think this is the reason so many truly terrible teams are getting screwed out of their rightful picks in the top 3.

Randomizing makes no difference whatsoever in results. Randomizing only makes a difference for drama if you are watching live.
Having a 20% chance is a 20% chance, regardless.

If they wanted to show the actual process and keep the drama, randomizing would be the way to go. As balls come up, teams would be eliminated as possible winners. The only problem is that we would know the #1 pick before we know the #3 pick, and they like the drama of counting down.

Of course, none of this makes no practical difference whatsoever. It is just to appease the conspiracy theorists so that they can go back to investigating 9-11 and UFO coverups.
