Look, I'm as happy as the next guy that BBD kept us in the Magic series with his game winning J. But really... some of us have blinders on and aren't rationally assessing his worth. First of all, statistically he is simply just terrible at both rebounding and defense. Add this to the fact that he is also significantly undersized, and there isn't much room for improvement even with age.
That brings me to my second point- BBD is 6'6. 6'7 tops. I know he's listed at 6'9 but there's just no way. He's barely taller than Ray Allen...
Can anyone confirm this? Does anyone know how tall BBD really is? I honestly don't think there's any way he's over 6'7.
Lastly, while he developed into a decent 4th option during the playoffs, he tended to disappear on the road, and wasn't an incredibly efficient scorer. He also missed quite a few crucial FTs. Additionally, he has just about zero low-post moves, and continuously missed layups throughout the season and postseason. Truth be told, he was better in college simply because he was able to chuck his fat around against shorter and thinner players than he goes up against in the NBA.

These points are all backed up by statistics. If you check out our 5-man units on 82games.com, BBD appears to be our 2nd worst player aside from Tony Allen who is worthless both as a basketball player and a person. I forget who wrote the article, but it came out midway through the Bulls series and truly exposed how awful BBD really is. I think he has the 8th worst defensive rebounding rate amongst the 81 forwards that qualify for the scoring title. Only guys like Steve Novack and Jason Kapono were worse. But they can shoot 3's and BBD can only pretend to shoot 18 foot Js. (Yes, I'd prefer Kaponoto BBD any day)

I guess my point is, what can we REALLY expect to get for an obese shooting guard who can't shoot, defend, or rebound, and masquerades as a power forward? His value has certainly peaked, and I'm still not sure many GMs are convinced of his future as a rotation player in the NBA. Certainly nobody this side of Chris Wallace views him as a starter...
I'd say best case scenario is trading BBD, Pruitt, and a 2nd rounder for a slightly-better-than-dime-a-dozen-defensive-swingman. I think Travis Outlaw is extremely wishful thinking. Jamario Moon is a bit more believable for me.

Thoughts?

I tend to agree with you, but could do without the personal attacks on players.
BBD hit that one big shot during the playoffs, but other than that, was not very impressive. He has 0 vertical leap, misses layups, doesn't rebound, and looks like a weight/injury problem in the future.
On the plus side, he seems to have a great attitude, he hustles his (big)butt off, takes charges well, and does have a decent jumper.
IMO, his value will never be higher. I don't really know his contract status(one more year then restricted free agent?), but would consider a trade.
But then again, he was forced into being a starter this postseason- as a bench player he's more than adequate, but not for $10 million/year.

Well it is the off season, the time of year where a player like Gerald Green is worth 100 posts  :P As for BBD, I have to agree with the OP. As a person, I love Big Baby, but as a player... he simply doesn't get it done. I don't know if anyone here follows wages of wins, but here is a good chart comparing BBD production in 2009 and the 1st round of the playoffs with that of a league average PF and KG. The results arn't too spectacular, check it out.

I tend to agree with you, but could do without the personal attacks on players.

I mean, generally speaking, personally attacking players is one of my favorite things to do. Especially criminals like Tony Allen, who double as a basketball player who by all accounts appears to do crack cocaine before he takes the court. Or at least plays like it.

Sorry Roy. Sometimes I can't help myself. Good thing it's only borderline appropriate so that I don't get banned from my favorite website that consumes 50% of my web browsing time.

He is 6'8 not 6'9 like the accouncers say. Saw him stand beside pp who is 6'6 and yeah he looks about 2 inches taller. Sometimes seems like they are they same height because bbd stance is "ready"

don't knock on the dude. He played hard for us and found a way to compensate his offensive limitations inside by perfecting a jump shot. He plays hard and isn't scared to bang

The only reason i would sign him would be if we think we can trade him in a few months. Some combo of Scal’s expiring deal + glen davis + (giddens/walker/pruitt) might be able to get us a serviceable player from a team going bankrupt.

If Glen Davis is getting big minutes next year, we failed.

I think he comes back at most, half the MLE.

Teams are tightening their belts.  I don't see any of them throwing out more then that for a short PF that has only a short stretch where he played really well.

His playoff play did get us excited.  And it probably opened alot of eyes around the league.

The timing is just not good for Davis to get a big contract.

His official measurements were done before the draft, both with and without sneakers. Someone can locate them. Those are accurate.

I think we will get to keep Glenn at a reasonable cost. The economy is too nuts to overplay a guy like him.

He had some great moments, that game winner is forever, but he also missed a bunch of layups and is just a short pf when it comes down to it.

The economy I think will also help us trade Leon while he is still rehabbing. If ownership will throw in cash with him, it may get them a player we couldn't normally get for just Leon. Some teams need cash, it's a good time to spend if we have it. The maximum you can throw in is I think ~3 million.
