ok, well I have been reading all the posts about offseason moves and it seems 90% of the people want to improve the bench and are content with leaving the starting 5 intact after an offseason of rest. the names that pop out to me are ben gordon and marvin williams. i think these players would be willing to come to the c's for 3 obvious and realistic reasons. #1 they have celtic connections, gordon with UCONN and ray allen, marvin williams with rondo. #2 they each feel unwanted by their current teams. #3 aside from this past year they have been in losing environments and would embrace the winning culture of a class organization like the celtics. williams could play the 3/4 and shoot jumpers and he is athletic enough to play solid D. ben gordon was compared to ray allen constantly during the bulls series, so why not come in, back up ray and maybe be 'the guy' who transitions to SG if and when ray leaves? i think the celtics should then use their draft pick on a BIG 7 foot athletic center, i dont mind if he is raw, as long as he has potential and a good work ethic. after watching the likes of olowokandi, o'bryant and blount the last few years, id be more than happy with potential and work ethic, doesnt have to be an all star. the final piece to the offseason can occur in august, if a vet hasnt signed and the celtics can swoop in and offer the vet minimum(maybe a grant hill or mcdyess)with these moves(except for the vet move) not only would the celtics deepen their bench and provide rest for the starters, they would be adding young talent that they can develop 'the celtic way' and be ready to step in along with more pieces down the line after the big 3 are no longer very productive and eventually retire. the young core would be rondo-gordon-marvin williams-BB davis-(who i am all for signing to a 3 year deal)-perkins-and a young center, if we want young replacements, dont go for guys who are 27-29, go for guys who are 24-26, they have just as much talent and more room to grow. what does everyone think about my ideas?
