What would it take to get Joe Johnson back to the Celtics?  Would you make the trade?

Ray + picks?
Rondo?

I would love to see Joe Johnson as the successor to either Ray or PP.

I think the Hawks could get a better offer elsewhere, unless the C's are willing to part with Rondo.

It'll be very interesting to see how worried Atlanta are about JJ's next contract extension.

Would you part with Rondo (sign and trade) for Joe Johnson and ZaZa Pachulia.

absolutely not, who's our PG? ray allen? joe johnson?

both of them are pure 2 guards looking to score, which they are extremly good at, not PG's.

Joe Johnson is one of the few players I'd go for in a "trade Ray" scenario. For us, though, it has to be a salary dump for Atlanta, as we don't have the assets to do a straight up talent for talent trade.

We can trade Ray for a PG (Billups?) if we get JJ for Rondo.

Or Rondo + Scal for Joe Johnson + Zaza.  Ray to the Bulls for Hinrich and Ben Gordon.

Hinrich/Marbury/House
Johnson/Gordon
Pierce/Johnson
KG/BBD
Perk/ZaZa

Wow ... I was thinking of the C's signing a role player point guard like a Steve Blake or a Chris Duhon, but I think your idea is much better.

The idea of Joe Johnson, Ray Allen, and Paul Pierce playing together on the perimeter. Three guys who can all do just about anything offensively. Then two high post passers like KG and Perkins. Can you imagine trying to defend that? That would terrifying!

Then you have JJ at the point defensively, where he's a very good-to-excellent man-to-man defender and I think he could blossom as a help defender there too. That could be a devastating defensive lineup too!

Wow ... that was a lot of fun to imagine!

Atlanta has no salary to dump.

Imagine Rondo with Josh Smith on the break.  That is why Atlanta would do this deal.

Rondo for Joe Johnson.  You can win a championship without an all star PG, granted you need a very good one, but no need for All-Star.  How rings do Kidd or Nash have? A Hinrich type PG would suffice with sucha lineup.

Rondo and Perk without an All-Star swingman will get you nowhere.

Joe Johnson makes the transition to the post Big 3 smoother. He can play both the 2 and the 3, lengthening the careers of PP and Ray.

(Hinrich)/House/Marbury
JJ/Ray
Pierce/JJ
KG/BBD
Perk

JJ Ray and PP can all play point forward too to have all on the court together with KG and Perk as WHO said.

The local paper in Atlanta has had at least one "Trade Joe Johnson" article.  There's concern in Atlanta that Joe Johnson is aging very quickly.

Atlanta has no salary to dump.

I meant Johnson's contract itself, although I didn't check it's length before I posted. If he had 3-4 years left on his deal (which  he doesn't) then I could see Atlanta possibly making the deal.

ah.  Atlanta's only long term contract is Josh Smith and they aren't going to move him for anything the C's could/would realistically offer.

Johnson is a much better possibility since he is older and expiring soon (thus Atlanta would need to write a big fat check for him).  Even though is is more likely with Johnson, I see maybe a 1% chance the C's and Hawks would work out a trade.  IT just isn't likely.
