Offseason Moves and Availability

Just looking through the guys who are free agents and guy who will be available this summer, and was wondering as to which guys will address what we need the most?

The following are available pg/sg

Andre Miller
Allen Iverson
Anthony Carter
Jamal Crawford (eto)
Damon Jones
Keith Bogans
Bobby Jackson
Jacque Vaughn
Brevin Knight
Juan Dixon

Of this list, would there be any interest in a guy like Jamal Crawford? The guy is a serious threat from deep, and may be worth trying to get a package from Golden State, seems how they are going to try and trade him this offseason. What about a deal sending Ray for Crawford and a future first? Cuts down our payroll a bit so we can go out and possibly pursue guys like Rasheed Wallace, Antonio McDyess, and Anthony Parker during this free agency.

Or should we be looking at signing someone who can monitor Rondo's development, Jason Kidd or Andre Miller? I have to think that neither of those guys is going to get much more than the full MLE at this point in time, especially Kidd. We could use him in the backcourt at the same time as Rondo for stretches, playing off of each other.

Lastly, if some of the above fall through, should we try to trade for a guy like Josh Howard, who is more than likely available? The Mavs have gone as far as they will go with the current bunch, and I think we could work something out that might work for both teams.

ray for crawford and a first is a horrible, horrible idea.

like it or not, we are not trading Ray. Especially not for Crawford. And why in the world would GS be willing to do that? It is not like they are going anywhere, so why give up a first and increase payroll?

I'd like to keep a back court of:

Rondo/Marbury
Allen/House

We need bench improvement at the 3 and the 5.

I'd only trade Ray Allen if we were getting a sure fire star in return (say someone looking to dump a malcontent for an expiring contract and a 1st).

Something like this i'd consider. But i'm not sure what the dynamic of the big 3 is... it might cause chemistry damage. Ray, Paul and KG trust the organization right now... if one of them were traded fomr a package that might make them worse, there could be some fall out...

I'd only trade Ray for a slam dunk. Other wise I think he's going to be a valuable gunner (not so much an allstar) for the next 3 years.

First of all, not a good idea IMO.  But even if it were, are their salaries anywhere near each other?  Because you know, you can't reallt save money in trades in the NBA because salaries have to match.  The only way to can save money is in the long term by trading a shorter contract for a longer one. 

I'm thinking let Ray play out next year and decide what to do then.  We may be better off using the money saved by signing someone younger as a free agent since I believe Ray makes a good chunk of change.

Keep Ray.  At some point start a defensive stud in his place and bring him off the bench for an age-appropriate amount of minutes.  And put him in at the end of close games...

It's hard to replace a cold-blooded clutch shooter.  Plus Ray is a fantastic mentor in terms of attitude, work ethic, etc...He's off the charts in that respect.

New Orleans needs Big Baby.  They need his girth and his personality.  Chris Paul and a prominent role in N.O. will keep Glen motivated.  He'll be a media darling, which he needs to be.  Our starting center and starting PF are too good to spend big bucks on Baby.  Sign and trade Baby, including Pruitt and our second round pick, for James Posey and N.O's first round pick.  Draft Blair and if he's already gone draft Hansbrough.

a big athletic swing forward with an outside shot who can defend. thats my #1 priority.

i know everyone's all on the bbd bandwagon (and i don't argue that he as become a player) but i still think we should try do a sign and trade with the blazers for bo outlaw.

bbd's value is through the roof right now, if we can move him for a player who can back up both pierce and KG we would be killing two birds with one stone.

Andre Miller is a free agent? Off that list, that would be my ideal backup for Rondo. Plus, he can also play the 2 occasionally

Andre Miller is way too good to be a backup anywhere, I think.  He averaged 16.3 / 6.5 for a playoff team.  He'll be a starter somewhere.

Marbury was also too good to be a backup 2 not long ago, and he was a sworn enemy of House for example. Anything is possible
