Just thought I'd give some love to a former Celtic who looked focused and played his role to perfection last night.

I thought Tony Battie made some pretty huge/impressive baskets in the 3rd quarter last night which was extremely frustrating to watch given how productive Marbury was at the same time. Marbury would have single-handidly brought the game back to within a point or two had Tony not converted on several wide-open looks. He went 4-7, here were his makes:

12 ft jumper
14 ft jumepr
8  ft turnaround jumper
layup

Well done Tony. Where was that confidence 6 years ago? ???

I actually posted something about him during the first half in the game thread last night.  I pretty much said the nice things you said, but thought that this was the end of the line for Battie (and it may well still be).  He had seemed like a forgotten, non-factor out there.

Then all of the sudden he was killing the Celts as the Magic made their big run.

Always liked Tony

Yup

Tony will play a significant role with the Magic for years to come... His expiring contract is one of the only assets Otis Smith has left after signing Lewis to the worst contract in sports.

Watching Tony knock down jumpers was extremely frustrating. He had been absolutely useless in the first four games. I was so happy everytime he would take a shot- last night was hopefully the exception.

I will say that I was always a Tony, not a Vitaly, guy when he was in Boston- so much potential- never totally panned out, but he carved himself out a pretty good career.

I was always fond of Battie when he was with the green.

Tough to watch him beat up on us a bit last night, though.

I was always a Vitaly guy.  Battie was always very frustrating to me because he got pushed around so much down low.  I've always preferred unathletic tough guys like Vitaly and Danny Fortson to wimpy tall guys like Battie, O'Bryant, and Mikki Moore.

Talking about "El Busto"..... The third overall selection in the Olowakandi draft. He might be the only guy in his class on a regular NBA rotation right now.

Tony does not talked about much but Stan Van Goober isn't relying on him enough. Really, I think the Tragic have let our boys off the hook. This series should probably been over.

I would like to get McDyess in the off-season but worth a look is Tony Battie who is clearly better than Mikki Moore.

How is a guy like Battie put in the same sentence as POB/Mikki? Battie hustled to the max while Mikkie is all about fake hustle and POB never even bothered to fake hustle at all.

Tony Battie was the fifth pick in the 1997 (Duncan, Van Horn, Billups...McGrady) draft)...98 was the Olowokandi one (Raef went third) best known for us getting Pierce at 10. Nowitzki at 9 too, that was a crazy draft.

Anyways, its good to see he has improved his game. But the biggest thing I've noticed with him is he is by far the most vocal Magic player on the bench and seems to be their leader coming out of huddles. They mentioned when they resigned him it was for his veteran leadership as much as playing (if I remember correctly.

Well a lot of people are better than Moore. It's clear we need another ball handler and another big. Or posey. If we only still had him!

Magic fans didn't think Battie should have played at all.

Perhaps they'd like to just give him to us?  I mean, hey, he is/was a Celtic anyway.  So if they don't want him . . .

Always liked Battie.  He was just a prisoner of the the potential tag.  He has been good NBA player - not great - good.  Seems to be a great teammate and is a professional unlike Kandiman and POB.

Hung out with Battie one night at a bar when he was waiting for Paul Pierce and he was a great guy.  The second Paul showed up they went to the private room but Tony was just sitting at the bar.

He's also a hero. He saved Paul Pierce's life by rushing him to the hospital the night Paul got stabbed.

Battie would be the perfect backup big.
