This thread doesn't make a lot of sense. So baby has finally proven that he has a place in the NBA for the next couple of years, so let's ship him off to see him succeed somewhere else?

The logic just doesn't add up for me.

After Perk and KG, Scal is the only other big we have. As we saw this season, you need to have big man depth. It is hard to come by. I still think Davis may be undervalued because of his ability to guard centers. He simply knows how to use his leverage.

So, if the Hornets offered you Posey stgraight up for BBD in a sign and trade-- would you do it?

I'm sure BBD would love going back home to Louisiana, and he's an unrestricted free agent in June.

the idea is that in the NBA you win with veterans.  We have little flexibility in trading assets and can't pay guys to come here as FAs except with the midlevel exception - now we have a trading chip we can put with an expiring contract, to make that expiring contract seem even more appealing and we get back a player better than Baby that helps us in the future

I'm not sure I advocate this as the route; I really like what Baby's becoming, but is he the PF of the future for this team? Can he perform on an 82 game schedule?  Tough questions

  I vote no. Posey's contract is less of a value now than when we didn't want to match it last summer.

On talent alone, maybe, but I don't see the C's having any interest in bringing in Posey and his contract.  I think they thought last summer that he was not going to be worth the money at the end of the deal, and now that they have lost another year off his prime, I think they feel the same way. 

In fact, I don't think the C's would trade Scal and Tony for Posey, if the Hornets were willing to do it (and they may be...they are really hurting for money, and those are expiring contracts).

Now, if we were talking something like Baby (signed) and Tony for someone like Nocioni, who is 3 years younger, a better all around player than Posey, and will be making essentially the same amount of money over his last 2 years, then you might have something.

Ultimately though, I just don't see the C's trading Davis.

It makes perfect sense to me.

If Glen Davis is very over-valued on the free agency market, should the Celtics:
A) Match a contract that pays Big Baby much more than he is worth?
B) Just let him walk and hope to sign a replacement?
C) Try for a sign-and-trade?

In order of preference, I think the answer should be C then B and never A.

That scenario happens to rest on a big if.  I still have a hard time believing a team will give Glen Davis a big contract with plans of plugging him into the starting line-up.

I think Danny would and will trade any player on this roster if he thinks that it improves the team. That being said, why would we want to trade BBD? Who says he has peaked? The gets bettr every game, he's as big and tough as you will ever find in this league, and he appears to be a very likeable teammate. Not to mention, if you have a kid get onto the court and need him shoved off, BBD already has experience (sorry, I just couldnt resist). I say keep and watch him get better and better.

How do you know he is overvalued? He hasn't received any contract offers yet. And how do you know his ceiling?

And how much do you think we can get in a sign and trade? Probably nothing substantial.

If we did trade BBD, why are people suggesting to do it for an athletic swing man? All our young guys that will still be here are swing men (Walker and Giddens). We need a backup big even more!

Baby has really stepped his game up. He is going to be an excellent backup 4/5 when KG comes back. I don't want to trade him.... and i doubt we'd get much for him. We know he fits onto this team like a glove chemistry wise.

We could get a decent long 3 by trading an expiring Scal and/or TA contract and a 2nd rounder. ...Or we just develop Bill Walker over the summer. ...Or we sign a nice 6-6 swingman in the offseason... A Parker, G Hill, M Barnes, I Udoka, Q Ross, etc.

Unless something amazing comes along, we should resign Davis at $3-4 mil per.

My biggest concern with Baby is that someone will pull a Jon Koncak and deliberately sign him to an overvalued contract, forcing us to match or let him go.  The economic climate and the looming '10 free agent season probably reduces the chances of that though.

The economy and the 2010 pot of gold plays into our favor this offseason. This summer is the time to go for the jugular and fill the gaps in the roster!

It is possible some foolish team will over pay him though... alll it takes is one :-/ .... like NO with Posey. I think we'll be safe...

I think they will let BBD walk.  They have to extend Rondo and that will put them over the luxury tax right there. So BBD will cost double.

No, it's going to be the 5 starters plus 10 very cheap players.

No way!  Turiaf sucked big time in the finals last year and BBD proved that he is a clutch player.  I don't know what's wrong with people that want this kid gone.  You can't teach CLUTCH, it's just something you have or don't.  Besides, who's gonna start for KG is he's not 100% when he returns?  I say we sign BBD and  try to get ZaZa or Sheed and we are set with big men.
