Would have made the difference last year against the Celts.  He is a virtual nonfactor in these playoffs and continues to be a large unknown.  Sure, he has talent, and has played well in spurts, but he is far from a finished product.  And we've yet to see how he and Gasol will coexist in the long run. 

Frankly, I think Bynum will be an good player over his career but he won't a star.  Not at all.

A healthy Bynum wouldn't have changed the outcome of the NBA Finals last year and I'm pretty sure that he admitted that himself.

I once said in a thread much earlier in this season that I wouldn't trade Perk one up for Bynum. No way, no how. Boy I received a bunch of crap for that. Seems I don't look nearly as stupid as some were suggesting I was after all.

And I still stand by my comment. One up, if salaries matched, I would not take Bynum over Perk.

100% agree, Perk is hands down the better player.

I feel the Lakers brought Bynum back to soon...i don't think he has healed completely.I can tell he is not 100%mobile and his timing is off.Im not saying he is better than Perk just not feeling we are seeing a 100%healthy A.Bynum in this playoffs.

Yeah, great post and was thinking the same thing, reading all the Laker posts about how Bynum would be the difference maker. 

I think the world of Perk and by no means is this comment meant to attack Perk, but I think Bynum's game is where Perk's was two years ago on the defensive end.  Bynum hasn't figured out that the Lakers really don't need him to score.  Just play great D, clog the lane and rebound.  He's constantly out of position (and why he's fouling at a clip that Perk was two years ago) and he's seriously a worse rebounder than Rondo.

Perk, on the other hand, has in the past two years quietly developed into one of the premier role players in the league.

Woah, a lot of you guys are underestimating Bynum. He'll never be a superstar. But he is 7 foot, very mobile and has had a number of dominating games. I think he'll make 3-5 all star teams before his career is over.

..but Bynum is injured every year, and i have always questioned his fire.

I do not question Perk's fire for a second.

Bottom line: Bynum is bigger, longer wingspan, more athletic/mobile.

But Perkins has more fire, better health and is a better defender.

Most people around the NBA would take Bynum, hands down. For me and the rest of you: the fire, the better health, and the years we have invested in cheering for Perkins make him the favorite of the 2.

Oh and to get more on point with the original post. I totally agree that Bynum is not the difference maker.

Kobe is the difference maker.
Followed by Gasol...
Followed by Odom...
then maybe Bynum.... Ariza and Fisher could have something to say about that.

The Celtics last year were better than the Lakers. End of story.
