Not to be a Debbie Downer, but we only had 2 points off the bench tonight.  It's great that we took home the W, but I don't have confidence in the Celtics taking this series if the bench doesn't show up.  Eddie House has been completely contained by Courtney Lee and only got one shot off in 17 minutes of play.  They need to work on getting him open.  It would have been nice to have some help off the bench with Allen ice cold and Pierce in foul trouble.

Sorry, I didn't see that there was already a thread about this.

The Celts are a flawed & beat up team

But they are 2 games from a return to the Conference Finals
Yup

We've been flawed all season on the bench issue.

And now we're beat up and it seems like we're starting each game in the bonus, thanks to the fouls.

The ONLY way we've got to win playoffs games is defense, and we won this thing with defense tonight.

They definitely ran out gas a bit, but this was a solid effort from end to end.  They did not let the Magic go any runs (til the end).

Yup

  • Rondo = Good
C's survived for now with a not-so-pretty win.

It seems like our bench is much better at home (see game 2) so let's pray for that next game, because we desperately need a win to swing this series for us.  I'm feeling good about our chances now, but if the Magic take another game from us at home I think we're really in trouble even though we'll only be down 3-2.

I hope you're right.  It's nice to have home court advantage back, but there's no way that we win another game with our bench hardly showing up, like they did tonight.  I think that we need to set some more screens for House to get him open when either Pierce or Ray is on the bench.  Courtney Lee was his daddy tonight.

  • There can only be one.
I don't understand it. Eddie House came off the bench twice and played 17 minutes, yet scored zip in his first on-court appearance. On the other hand, Marbury came off the bench and was aggressive offensively and defensively, and scored the ONLY 2 bench points-and yet, Doc decides to put Eddie House in...

I didn't really understand why he put in House and not Marbury. Considering House wasn't getting open to save his life. Marbury could have created some plays.

But oh well, we won. So life is good.

This is going to be a big part of the offseason. McDyess or Sheed, please.

Marbury is a great player, but this year he has shown obvious rust and has proven to be an offensive liability thus far.  He has only shown any value by setting the pace and dishing the ball...which makes him almost useless as a 2-guard.  It's not even that his shot hasn't been falling...everything about his shot just looks UGLY.

House, on the other hand, has been HUGE this series.  The problem with House is that he can't create his own shot.  They need to set better screens for him and find more ways to get him open.  Lee completely shut him down tonight.

Marbury has an incredibly good looking shot.

You should watch him in before game warmups/shootarounds.

He is still adjusting to having to get heated up while on the fly coming off the bench. Something he has never really had to do.

Have you ever watched Ray in pregame warmups?  He NEVER misses.  Marbury shot for 34% in the regular season and has shot for just 27% in the playoffs.  I couldn't care less how good he looks in the pregame.

Whatever it is with Marbury during the actual game, he looks terrible out there.  At this point in time, he is not a legitimate backup at the 2, unless defensive pressure is needed.  I actually like Marbury too.  I'm just calling it like I see it.
