Has the KG injury hurt Tom Thibedeau's chances at being a head coach?

We all knew that the Celtics defense would suffer without KG. But, the Celtics defense has been inconsistent, at times nonexistent, and downright mediocre without KG.

My question is, with this mediocre defense, does this hurt Tom Thibedeau's credibility at all and will it hurt his future chances of being a head coach in the NBA, for at least another year?

I think it has to have hurt his chances. True or not, it says that great defense lies more in having a great defensive player on your team then having a great defensive coach. People also forget that we had both Posey and P.J. who were both good defensive players in their own right.

Nope, I don't think so. I don't think there's been any negative effect.

If the C's get knocked out in this round, his chances may even improve because he'll have a shot at doing some interviews this time around.

I've been writing for months that people over-rate the importance of defensive schemes and stuff like that. When you don't have elite defensive players, you're not going to be an elite defensive team. Team defence depends entirely on the ability of your players to defend individually. People in the NBA are well aware of this, it wont hurt Tom's chances to any extent.

I'd agree with this. It's not going to hurt his chances, but it could at least ease the pain of Cs fans when he leaves.

the selfishness in me, being a c's fan...hopes thib stays as an asst. he is great in that role and has a fantastic working chemistry with doc and the other coaches on the staff.
