For all of the criticizing that was going on in this thread, you would have thought that Davis was some one game wonder. The kid had a fairly successful NCAA career and in his second year with the Celtics has proven to be probably the most reliable bench player that this team had this year, getting better and better as the weeks went by.
Say what you want but he can now hit that shot consistently and during clutch situations. He has won two games this year with late game shots. Playing clutch in clutch situations is a very, very valuable skill. For all the moaning and groaning about how limited he is the kid is still averaging 16.4 PPG and 6.0 RPG and 1.3 STPG and 2.0 APG in the playoffs playing primarily against players much taller than he is (Lewis and Thomas).
What more does he need to do to prove to people that the kid is a player and a keeper?? Say what you want but it can be argued that he has been the most CONSISTENT player on the Celtics during these playoffs.
I'm sorry but I believe in this kid and think he will make a very valuable sixth man in the future for this team and I think many here undervalue what he has brought to this team on a game in and game out basis since KG went down. I think he's a good defender against centers but has trouble versus athletic PFs. I think he sets good screens and is excellent in the pick and roll and pick and pop game, often floating to the perfect spot to be wide open for his shot yet still in his range. I think his conditioning has gotten unbelievably better and will continue to do so. I think in the future he will have a sneaky good low post game, using the rim as a blocking shield as he goes up and under. And elevation will come with better conditioning. He has got up high to get a lot more blocked shots this year than I ever would have believed he could have.
Thanks Big Baby, you just might have saved this series for the Celtics.
