After watching the replay, it looks like Artest got ejected for pantomiming an elbow being thrown, and Crawford interpreted it as a throatslash type move.  He got the hook immediately after making the gesture, then tried to tell Crawford he was mimicking the elbow.  Unfortunate if that's what got him ejected.

Yup. Hard to say if this is just bad officiating or if this is one of "those" games.

Wow, I wonder if that's a suspension for Kobe - the rules are very specific that any elbow foul above the shoulders is a suspension.

Highly unlikely.  Last game Kobe threw a knee/elbow combo to Battier's head with no call at all...why would a sole elbow that resulted in a foul on ARTEST result in a suspension.

That play in Game 1 looked at least somewhat incidental to Kobe standing up.  This was just "box out, get pushed, swing elbow into Artest's throat, grab rebound".  The rulebook is very specific that any elbow foul above the shoulders is an ejection.

I'll be shocked to see the league do it too, though.

sorry but that's a load of horse-you-know-what. What Kobe did in Game 1 was completely intentional. It reminded me of an old Dennis Rodman play I saw once trying to get tangled up in the other player solely for the purpose of falling on that guy. Add in Vujacic's blow to Battier's head opening him up and forcing him to get 4 stitches. And Fisher has no business in Game 3 after what he did today. That's just a dirty, shady basketball team.

if the league suspends kobe 1 game (which they should, based on the rules), they'd also be saying that the refs not only missed the call, they called it on the other guy and then ejected him. while that would be great to actually see, i can't imagine it happening.

You're misunderstanding me - I didn't say it wasn't intentional, just that since Kobe was trying to get up with the ball, it was difficult for the league to say it was clearly intentional.  I think it was, but I'm talking about how the league interprets the rules.  With the elbow, I don't see how they can claim it was part of the play.
