90% of BMW's are serviced by the BMW dealer, especially the 7 series, so that isn't really going to help much in the way of reliability. You've also got to ask yourself why this guy is selling it after putting 50k miles on it. Sure he has the pick of vehicles out there, but he very possibly knows something you don't. Even if it is only the likely chance of some pretty costly and severe issues due to all the others out there.

I know how it is when you fall in love with a vehicle, so if you have your heart set on this one you should go to the follwing site and look at the true information on what vehicles are actually going for. Kelly Blue Book and the NADA guides are published by the banks and dealers and aren't the most trustworthy source of actual sale prices. This site I have found to be much more accurate.

www.edmunds.com

Go to "appraise" under the used car section. It lists for my zip code down here in NC that vehicle at 4700 for the average dealer sales price. It may be a bit higher in yours. It lists the average private party sales price as 3700. That is with those low miles. I think you could easily drop another grand or 1500 off of it. What that 9995 sticker price and 6998 internet price shows you is that you are likely talking to a dealership that is trying to hit a home run off someone charging them twice what the vehicle should be going for. Does that sound like someone you should trust when he tells you this vehicle he is trying to sell is his own and is in perfect shape?! (I worked in this industry for a few years, so I can promise you there are a lot more bad guys in there by quite a big margin. That's why I changed careers)Sounds like your typical used car salesman to me with the games he was playing. I'd personally keep looking.

Ok, so I went on Edmunds & Kelley Blue Book.  According to Edmunds, I should buy this car for $4,844 (all options that the car has, and my location included).  According to KBB, I should buy this car for $8,750 (that's in excellent condition...I'd say this car is not excellent, but very good...so let's take$1,000 off the price & lower that to 7,750) so basically KBB says I am getting a good deal...Edmunds says I am getting ripped off.  Which one is more believable?

KBB is the industry standard, I have found Edmunds to be a bit off sometimes.

I went to NADA, as well.  They suggest the retail price be 6,625.  I'm going to try for 5,200.  Couldn't hurt.  I still think, I'm getting a decent deal, but if I can get it down to 5,200, I think I'll be getting a pretty good price.
