According to a source from SLAM, unless he gets $8 mil next season, he's going to retire.  Of course this isn't coming from Sheed directly, so who knows for sure.

Sheed to retire?

SLAM contributor J. Gamble [making his debut with us next issue] hears from a close personal friend of Rasheed Wallace’s that unless Sheed gets $8 million to play next year, he’s going to retire. If that’s true, we’ve probably seen the last of Sheed in the NBA.

I would hate to see guys like Iverson and Sheed just retiree because they'd have to settle for just the mid-level  ::).  Even if you hate these guys and don't want them on the C's, it makes things more interesting just to have them in the league.  Put Iverson and Sheed on any contender off the bench, and it's interesting, whether it would succeed or fail, I'd be watching either way to see what happens.

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Sheed doesn't deserve to get paid 8M$ next season and I think he'll retire because I don't see any team giving him this amount of money for an irregular production.

Sheed and 8 million is a very reasonable number in my opinion. Guy has straight up talent. I think its a reasonable contract but I think its a bs decision to retire if he doesn't get that... All about the money these days, its really pathetic.

He'd get $8 mil from somewhere.

If not, I'm sure he could be talked into signing next February/March somewhere for a smaller price.

Ben Gordon might not even get 8 mil this summer. The market sucks and people aren't going to drop over 6 mil a year on a guy that isn't a franchise cornerstone.

If true, reminds me a bit of Latrell Sprewell...
There are a number of teams that would line up to pay Sheed the full MLE.  Beyond that, there might be 1-2 teams willing to give him more for fewer years.
Celtics fan for life.

Hmm... He can still work out a sign and trade through Detroit correct?

I don't believe this for a second, even though these guys make a lot of money and a lot of them aren't too smart, even Sheed knows 5 million dollars (MLE) is a lot to turn down. Let's be real, playing basketball isn't work, and most of these guys have never had a job in their lives and never will, playing a sport for 7 months and getting 5 million dollars is something only the most foolish of humans rejects.

If Sheed retires I wonder what will happen to the ever popular watering hole:

And be sure to check out the video section for some classic Sheed antics, like him making fun of a fan in a pink shirt and him singing jingle bells:

He's worth 8 mil but he won't get it unless he wants to play for a 25-30 win team.

Iverson doesnt care about the MLE he just wants minutes which is reasonable seeing as hes pound for pound maybe the best scorer ever

until sheed says it this summer... I consider him in play for a contender for the MLE.
