he hasn't had surgery yet, from what I understand no date has been set - estimates are he may be back mid season next year - but he doesn't currently have a contract for next year, so it will be interesting to see what goes down - best to him

Here's the update as of April 26:

Quote
Powe's season ended when he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus in his left knee in Game 2 last Monday. He said yesterday that the swelling has gone down and he hopes to have a surgery date tomorrow. . . .

Powe plans on rehabilitating his knee with a specialist in Los Angeles. His agent, Aaron Goodwin, said Powe should be able to play again by the middle of the 2009-10 season.

I was pretty sure he hadn't as of the last game, (what I found on the net as of 4/29 just said he is scheduled, doesn't say it went down)

I'd been concerned too, thanks for bringing it up.  I am really hoping for the best for Powe, he's an inspiring example on and off the court.

Per Jeff on the front page:

The Boston Celtics announced today that forward Leon Powe underwent successful ACL revision reconstruction with microfracture and cartilage repair at New England Baptist Hospital this morning. The surgery was preformed by Celtics Team Physician, Dr. Brian McKeon and was assisted by Dr. Paul Weitzel and Dr. John Richmond. No timetable has been set for Powe’s return.

Yeah, absolutely correct.  They're getting much better and more consistent with it, but the surgery has ended a few careers.

Multiple ACL Reconstructions coupled with a Microfracture....not good.  I hope he makes it back to play period whether it's with the Celtics or any other team.

Get well Leon.

I wish all the best for Leon and his family. I hope to see him next year with us and I know if it was just a matter of hard work he would be back on the floor in a few months but, since it is a serious injury, it will take time to see him playing again. Get well soon Leon and come back stronger than ever!!

Oh man...I did not know he needed microfracture too. This is really sad news. I hope he can come back from this but he may not get a contract this offseason considering he probably wont play next year. Another tough break for a guy that seems to have had enough bad breaks for a lifetime.

I heard Leon Powe's surgery was successful and a close friend told me he is suiting up tomorrow night and will play 49 minutes.

actually, that isnt correct.  from a well placed source that is sometimes on tv, but sometimes not, I heard that Leon actually didnt have surgery.  they are just trying to feed some misinformation.  truth is, he has been recovering and is ready to play.  the debate has just been when to use him, because he may only have one game in him.
