Well, so far I must admit Van Gundy appeared sympathetic to me, which is surprising because I can't stand him!

But I've got to acknowledge that he didn't say anything cheap in postgame conference, in fact he congratulated Rondo and House for their performances, and he said that the Celtics played a really good game. He was almost laughing so maybe it was the shock to see his team play so poorly but anyway I must give Van Gundy credit for being classy so far.

I can't stand his brother either.  For someone who knows so much about the game, he says some really stupid things at times.  I wish CSN was allowed to call the games still.

I CANT STAND to listen to Jeff Van Gundy comment on games.  He does say tons of stupid things, he has a serious man crush on LeBron, and every time he talks about the Celtics it's painfully obvious that he has something against them.  He's always negative about the Celtics.  Always.

Yeah hes NEVER on topic when he calls games, he always gets on the topics of the cavs or the lakers or the magic

have to agree to disagree i guess, i have the games from last years playoffs on my HD (NBA.com letting you buy full games for 2.99 a pop might be the best thing ever)

and he and Jackson are nothing but insightful and in awe of the Celtics in the finals (in particular their defense on the lakers) and called game 7 against lebron(only CLEV game i bought) right down the middle.

Yes, they are impressed with some of the things lebron does in that game, but he's an amazing player. so what? they are just as complementary of paul's game, with van gundy saying that this puts him among the legends of the Celtics at one point.

not ever crew calls the game like tommy....

"I think it's clear in the rule book that that's what is called for," Van Gundy said of Alston's suspension. "The question everybody has is, 'Why when Brad Miller is going to the hoop can you just take a swing?' You know, the only ones I think that agree that he didn't wind up and follow through were Stu Jackson and David Stern. I think everybody else including Boston's fans know he wound up and followed through."

the diffrence, stan my friend, is one was involved in the commision of a basketball play preventing a layup for the tie at a key point in a game (though i think rondo skated, he should have gotten a flagrant one and been fined, for sure)

alston's was due to lack of testicles and done for no other reason than because he's a moron, and was NOT during a basketball play.

hope that clears it up for you, you fat, bucktoothed,  chipmunk.

Excellent post.

I really cannot relate to the fans who get jealous when non-Celtics get rightfully praised. LeBron is amazing. Of course people are going to praise him. The way LeBron has played this year, I'm not sure it is possible to praise him too much.

I love Stan Van Gundy.  He is hilarious (just like his brother).    He is a very good coach too, but really, he just is always good for a quote or two.  He reminds me a bit of Ozzie Guillen.

That's my view as well (except that I have no idea about who Ozzie Guillen may be). JVG is an extremely entertaining commentator: often witty, funny, clever, sometimes silly, but always entertaining. Similar case to Tommy, from my perspective, although they're different on style and substance. He really adds value to the game one is watching.

How many more fans out there can identify with Van Gundy than with his chiseled center, for example?

I don't hate him as much as most of you.  I must say, though, that I couldn't believe he basically gave up on the game at the same time his players did.  He's usually jumping up and down, screaming himself hoarse when his team's playing poorly.  But I didn't see any of that the other night as the game wore on.
