Ben Gordon is a absolutley perfect fit for this team. Gordon is the 6th man the Celtics need. He is a straight scorer, the one thing the second unit lacks. We need a go to guy off the bench and here is a guy that can come out and give the team 20 points off the bench consistently...A bench or Marbury, Gordon, Walker, Baby, Powe, with a legit center thrown in there is A ok in my book...

Too bad he will hold out for a 10 - 12 million dollar contract elsewhere and never sign the vet min... However, I think Ray Allen whispered something along the lines of "Take the MLE and come to us next year and win a championship," at the end of the game. A year on the bench for gordon as the 6th man, Allen's contract goes up and they switch roles.

Disagree.  I admire the heck out of his ability, but the Celtics should seek to remain a team that moves the ball and defends.

Gordon already took his hometown discount this year.   he's looking to get paid now, bottom line.

As someone already said, some knucklehead GM is going to hook him up and hurt their cap.   IMO, Gordon is worth about 4yrs @30 million, tops.   He'll get MUCH more.

TERRIBLE defender, no rebounding, unable to hook up teammates and dish.  you know, all the things that win championships that you look for in your best and highest paid players.   and you'll never see him do those "intangibles" that make Rondo such a stud.

How is he a perfect fit if he requires too much money and wants to big of a role on the team (and doesn't play defense)?

Just because he likes to shoot doesn't make him a 'perfect' fit. Kobe, for example, would be a better fit off the bench with his combination of offensive and defensive ability.

If we don't care about salaries, we could just list the #1 free agent as the "perfect fit".

Why would Gordon take the MLE if he has a choice when he has already rejected a contract above his market value. This series hasn't taught us anything new about Gordon that would raise his value. We always knew he never met a shot he didn't like.

He is going to get overpayed.

He is a one trick pony that got really hot at the right time.

I still think he would be a great fit, off the bench. As a Scorer. Bottom line. Score buckets off the bench.

But are you willing to pay near max?  He already turned down 11 million  a year.

He's not that good.  Sure, he looked good because he made some shots against a tired, injured Boston team that he really shouldn't have been taking if he was playing within the confines of the offense.  But there are way too many holes in his game (defense, size, passing) to be an elite player on an elite team.  Any team who gives him big money is either foolish or satisfied to be mediocre.

As for coming here off the bench, even if we could somehow persuade him to come here for the midlevel, I don't see him buying into the team philosophy.

I would have no problem with him, his talent or playing attitude off the bench.

The money is the issue

The money is a big deal.  I would love to have a lot of guys come off the bench for the Celtics, the reality is that there are very few players in our price range.

I would like to have steak every night, but I only have enough cash for hamburger.

Ben Gordon is somewhere between hamburger and steak, but is going to cost filet price.

i wuold only take him if it didn't hurt our chaces filling some holes too. But that wouldn't happen. That guy pulled many of those shots out of his ass, as did that whole team. He's going to get way too much $ for what he can bring.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

I'm getting a kick out of all the "Ben Gordon is not good" comments in this thread. You guys have probably only ever seen him a handful of times, most of which this playoff series.

Take off your blinders. I know it is ludacris to think the Celts or Gordon would even attemp to make a deal, but I understand the OPs enthusiasm for BG's game.

Calling Ben Gordon "not good" or "he's lucky, he just got hot at the right time" is ridiculous. We could apply that same logic to our guys, or any NBA player for that matter.

Fact: Ben Gordon IS very very good.
Fact: He will not sign with the Celtics.

Ultimately, the kid played very clutch on a big stage against the defending champs (with or w/o KG), give him some credit.

However, sure the Celts management would be chomping at the bit to sign BG for a mid level money, but this type of stuff only happens in video games.

So, does he play like that all year, or does he have hot and cold streaks?

He is a good offensive player, but he is not the near max type player he wants to be.

He would be a great player to come off the bench.

But he will not be worth the money he wants to sign for.

I don't care how well Ben Gordon shoots. He doesn't defend well enough to play on our club.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."
