Doesnt KG have to play in this game 7.

To be one of the Celtics greats don't you have to go above and beyond the call of duty.

I feel that KG's reputation will be tarnished. This is what its all about. This is what he played 50 games for this season. He is on the downside of his career.

If he can walk he has to play. Thats that, end of story.

If he's going to play, he needs to be effective.  If he's dragging ass up and down the court, him playing may actually become detrimental to the team.  They should be able to wrap this series up without him.  It's bad decisions that has kept this series alive.

come on man, do you really think KG isn't one of the toughest guys in the NBA?   he played how many games in a row until last year, and you think he never played hurt then??

if anyone thought he could be even remotely effective, he'd be out there.  i have no doubts.

McHale took years off of his time as a top level player doing that. I'd rather get a few more productive years from KG. His reputation will survive this.

Maybe a hobbled KG gets us past Chicago. Would you risk the long-term effectiveness of a guy under contract for an additional 60 million dollars or so just to get to the second round? We would have been underdogs to get out of the East with a fully healthy squad, we have no realistic chance to make or win the finals with half a KG and no Powe, so why risk ruining your 60 million dollar investment?

As others had said, look at McHale now.  Look at his career following '87.  Yes, what he did was heroic.  However, playing on a broken ankle took years off his career and he was never the same.

We don't need KG doing the same thing.  Even though he's not playing right now, I am not questioning his manhood or passion.

He has a strained Tendon in his knee!

Hardly career threatening.

I don't understand what happened to the NBA its getting too soft, KG should suck it up and play

And what if that strained tendon tears?  Then, not only do you lose him for the rest of the playoffs, but the '09-10 season is now in question.

these threads need to stop.  they are stupid and unproductive.  the team isnt going to jeopardize their long term success to get an injured, rusty, and ineffective player on the court.

Two things:

1) If the C's are honest about this being a tendon issue that needs rest, there really shouldn't be any long term risk attached to playing KG tonight.  So the whole McHale broken ankle business and how he still limps today really doesn't correlate with KG...if the C's are being honest...

2) Even though that is the case, I'd still rather not see him play tonight.  This team should be able to beat the Bulls tonight if they play well.  In reality, this team should've swept the Bulls even without KG.  If KG is going to come back, I'd rather he give it at least another week or two worth of rest and come back next round (or ideally, the round after).
