I see ESPN is applying its usual sterling reporting standards to the incident.  Their tagline for the story is "Rondo's elbow in 1st leads to fracas with Hinrich"  ???.  Wow.  First line of the story: "Already embroiled in controversy, Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo threw an elbow at Kirk Hinrich of the Chicago Bulls late in the first quarter Thursday night but was not ejected from the first-round playoff game."  They also make no mention of the initial rough box-out, and define Hinrich's hit as "pushing (Rondo) back".

They're really pushing hard to try and equate this to the Howard situation, facts be [dang]ed.

If this was a less interesting series Rondo gets suspended. But there'll be too much criticism for the NBA to take out a premiere player in the deciding game of what is unanimously being heralded as the best opening round series ever.

I understand the paranoia, but it would be pretty surprising for Rondo to be suspended. Yeah, it was a classless move by Rondo and an easy flagrant call, but pushing someone when they are not in a vulnerable position is not that big of a deal. It was very Kenyon Martin-esque, and even Kenyon doesn't get ejected for those kinds of plays.

I don't think the Bulls care much about that play either.

I can't believe all the green kool-aid I'm reading in this thread.
I doubt Rondo get's suspended but come on. He threw a guy into the stands who only crime was boxing him out, which last I looked was not only legal but encouraged.  To see it any other way is just plain homerism.

I just find it odd that boxing out about 30 feet from the rim, after your team has the ball, and continuing to push a guy toward the sidelines is encouraged. Guess I am missing something.

I thought the same thing last night.  Once the ball is secure and you continue to box the guy towards the sideline for no reason, you deserve to get slung into the scorer's table.  I just Rondo wouldn't have done it for "keeping his cool" sake.

On that note, what is the rule on that? At what point can you get rid of the box out? I mean, is there a limit to how long guys can box a guy down?

I'm not trying to stir things up, just wondering what the deal is. Kirk had rondo boxed out fine, but he pushed him a row deep into the stands. seems a bit excessive.

It sure seemed excessive to Rondo, and he knows the game much better than I do!

Are you guys really comparing an over-enthusiastic box out to a player throwing someone into a table?

You really can't distinguish between those two actions, and why one is a foul and the other isn't?

Leaving aside that Hinrich came after I mean.

Ainge addressed KG's status THIS MORNING. KG and his STILL POSSIBLE comeback remains while a possible Rondo suspension never existed in the 1st place.
