What had DiLeo upset was another elbow from Howard.

Howard and Dalembert got tangled up going for a rebound in the first quarter, and Howard was called for a technical foul on the play after he apparently hit Dalembert with his elbow.

Howard said he doesn't feel he should face any suspensions for the hit.

"Very physical in the paint,'' Howard said. "It's been very physical in the series. All we can do is hope for the best. It's been a dogfight all series. It wasn't like I was out there trying to hurt anybody.''

Van Gundy also had a joking response to DiLeo's comments on the elbow allegation: "We're going to have the league look at Dwight's elbow on (Lee), too.''

Here is the play :

Howard got called with a technical but do you think that he should get suspended? And/or that he will get suspended?

he''ll get suspended a game, as he should be. thats a punch, or to use a MMA term "elbow strike" after the play as charles was saying last night.

also going against him is that he stops, looks at the man, and THEN elbows him in the chops while there both standing still. If it had happened in the heat of a battle for the rebound, he'd probably get off with a fine.

the league loses all credibility if they done suspend dwight for a game.  ive been suspicious of this league all year long and if it Dwight gets away with this it just makes its so obvious that the league is maximizing profits in each and every series.  I really hope that the league is not a huge conspiracy but no suspension for dwight is just going to legitimize the talks.  Of course then theres the question if Dwight gets away with an intentional elbow to the head can Lebron get away with blowing up an arena? (hyperbole dont get it twisted)

He has to be by the rules - problem is, by the rules, he had to be ejected last night too.  Stolen from the NBA rule book by way of TrueHoop:

l. A player, coach or trainer must be ejected for
...
(3) An elbow foul which makes contact above shoulder level

I believe these same type of fouls (punches and elbows to the neck/head) also are automatic suspensions.  Should be open and shut - I think they suspend him, especially since this isn't an elimination game for Orlando.  They lose a lot of credibility, if there's much left to lose, if they let Howard go on this.

Simply No...because of event leading up to the elbow is the root of the issue. The refs should have called a foul on the Sixers'center prior. If the officials had done their job then this might not have happened.

he should have been ejected, no question about it. He should be suspended as well. It was clearly a strike at an opposing player after the play was over.

That's the craziest reasoning i've ever seen. Its ok for him to elbow a player in the back of the head without punishment because a foul should have been called earlier on that player by a ref?

Does this reasoning work anytime or only in this crazy scenario?

Like say, is rajon not guilty of a flagrant 1 foul last night because they should have called miller for a moving screen instead of fouling out ray, and thus miller got what he deserved?

or better yet, Can we start just elbowing noah in the throat every time he sets a screen and say its because he set a moving screen that wasen't called, and thus had it coming?

Honestly.

I think he should be suspended for game 5 against the Celtics in the next round. I think he should be suspended the entire series for that matter. Fair is fair.

I think the rule about elbow strikes is very clear.  He should have been ejected.  Since he wasn't, he should be suspended.

would you give up rondo for the second round if they give up howard? I might consider that.

No, but I'd give up KG.  ;)

For no particular reason, this post made me laugh.  TP.

Yes, Dwight should be suspended for a game.  It was an intentional elbow that happened after the play was over.  If KG got suspended for 'punching' Bogut earlier this year, then this should be the same thing.

Back at ya

Probably the image of that squirrel noah getting elbowed in the throat by our tiny guards. Made me smile :D

In a fair and perfect world, Howard will get suspended and Rondo will get a fine and upgrade to flagrant 1.

However, this is Stern and Stu's world.  That means anyone can get bent over at any time.   ::)

While it is baffling, I'm expecting Dwight to not get suspended and Rondo to get a suspension.  Look at the espn.com NBA page.  It has a picture of Rondo fouling Miller and Howard in a 3 piece suit.  Why not show a picture of him throwing the elbow?
