Tony Allen did a commendable job defensively tonight on Gordon. He made the guy make impossible shots.

And, you saw tonight why Tony Allen can't earn minutes on a good NBA team: He undid a bunch of that good work with his trademark, an incredibly stupid basketball play by fouling a shooter who's throwing up a prayer.

Tony giveth, and then Tony taketh away.

I actually appreciate his purpose on this team; now that Posey is gone, he's the only one on the bench who can guard elite wings.  However, tonight was one game where he wasn't needed.  Ben Gordon, for as good as he is, is short.  Eddie House easily could've guarded him.  And not only would Eddie not have fouled him, he might have actually hit a couple threes so the C's wouldn't be in that position. 

Tony Allen will be very useful against the likes of Orlando and Cleveland, but the Bulls are all so undersized, this is the last series they really need to be doing this. 

Next year, however, they need to find an alternative, whether it is Walker/Giddens or a FA.

At times I wondered if some of the Chicago gangsters threatening his life had demanded he throw the game.

I shouldn't be that hard on Tony.  I know he's going through a lot... but good grief.

Agreed and TP.  Marbury played good defense tonight for the most part, just wish he would shoot the basketball.

As I've said before, Tony's problem is that he's simply not intelligent enough to leave on the floor for more than two or three possessions. The longer you leave him on the floor, the more the odds of a catastrophic mental mistake go up.

Sad, really, because if he could think the game at all, he'd be a useful player. He might then approximate the ability of the guy I kept calling for tonight. But basketball-wise, he's Gerald Green-style dumb and you can't fix stupid.

He's got to go in the off-season.

TA played great defense on Gordon.  That foul at the end wasn't a foul.

Tony played commendable up until having to shut down Gordon in the OT. He gave Gordon 5 freebies and Gordon hit all five.

That one he got called on earlier that Tommy Heinsohn thought wasn't a foul was a foul. The problem with that foul is that Gordon faked Tony right out of his jock and was 5 feet away from Tony when he elevated for the shot. Tony was beat he should never have gone airborne but instead have crashed the boards or got in front of Gordon to prevent a rebound coming right back to him.

The foul on the three pointer was classic dumb Tony going up to try to block a shot he should never have tried to impede. He did his job he forced Gordon out of bounds and into a buzzer beating three from 26 feet. Work done. Stick your arms straight up and don't leave your feet or lean forward.

Without those two complete bonehead plays, the C's dominate the OT.

And it's too bad too because up until that time Tony was playing pretty good.

Every time I start to think I am too hard on TA, he does something to completely justify my hatred...

When he committed that foul, there were no words.  I simply sat in silence, what more can you say about him that hasn't already been said?

I've looked at it three times on the DVR. It's a foul every single time.

It's a shame, really, because his overall body of work against Gordon was good.

But it's also vintage Tony: Mental mistakes that undo anything good he can do for you.

I have decided to nickname the Starbury version the Celtics got. "Bizzaro Starbury".

Old Marbury= selfish, fearless, cocky, no effort on D, team cancer
Bizzaro Starbury= unselfish, fearful, humble, busting his butt on D, good teammate.

Bizzare to say the least.

It is not the defense.  It is the offense seemingly grinding to a halt when he has been out there in this series.
