Who are the best players in the N.B.A. who are more or less equally good at 2 positions?

I'm less interested in the wing group (Kobe, Pierce, Joe Johnson at the 2 or 3) and more interested in the rarer players who are highly capable at both the 3 and the 4.

PG's who can play the 2 as well are rather self-evident (though there can be disputes), and centers and power forwards interchange with great frequency (more disputes when it's your team involved and you're discussing lineups, roster, etc..)

So how about the combo 3 and 4 players.  We used Posey at the 3 and 4, but he's a much better 3 unless the other team is small.

Who's the best player in the league who you could put at either position.  Durant?  Josh Smith?

Dwayne Wade is the best player in the league who can play two positions. Or LeBron James. Durant is horrible at the #2 in my opinion, since moving to the #3 he's been an absolute phenomenon.

Off the top of my head I would have to say Boris Diaw and Kirk Hinrich

“Being a Celtic is, every decision you make is about the team. Every cut you make is about the team. Every pass you make is about the team. You take yourself out of it. It’s not for everyone. If you don’t want to win, don’t want to play team basketball, and it’s more about you then you’re probably not a Celtic." Doc 2010

I was thinking of Durant at 3 and 4.  Forgot that he played at 2.  I guess too skinny for 4.

Oh, are we supposed to be naming the best at it?  My bad.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Tim Duncan and Al Jefferson can both switch in and out at the 4/5 easily.

3/4?

Probably Lebron but the Cavs front court is so deep we don't need to see it.

Antawn Jamison can play a mean 3

The guy who is best at doing it consistently? Its one of Josh Smith, Thad Young, and Travis Outlaw, probably.

What two positions do DWhistle and LeBrick play?  Ballhog and primadonna?

As the OP said the wing position is uninteresting because most teams use 2/3 interchangeably on offense.

The people that come to mind for me are Duhon/Hinrich (1/2) and Artest/Kirilenko/Odom (3/4)
God bless and good night!

  • Rondo = Good
Danny Granger at the 3 and 4.

Artest is another good answer.

He's not one of the best players in the league, but I was really impressed by Mbah a Moute's ability to play anywhere from shooting guard to power forward. Great versatility.

I was thinking of Durant at 3 and 4.  Forgot that he played at 2.  I guess too skinny for 4.
Give him another two years ... maybe Durant can play there then.

I think KG, Bosh and Dirk are adept at playing either power forward or center.

Brandon Roy and his ability to play either the point, two guard or small forward positions. But in particular, his ability to play the point.

I'd take Lebron at the 3 or the 4 any day. That man is amazing. Outside of Kobe he is way above the rest of the league.

Heck I'll take him at the 1,2 or 5.

2/1= DWade
1/2 =Mo Williams.
3/4= LBJ (Rashard Lewis , though, is the one no one thinks of)
4/3= Dirk
4/5= Al Jeff ( Aldridge is underrated here)
5/4= Tim Duncan
