The more I think about it dealing Allen in the right move could extend this championship window we have for another 2 - 3 years.

This would be one of those moves in my opinion:

Ray Allen
Scal

For

Richard Hamilton
Tayshaun Prince

The Pistons:

- This acquisition allows Detroit the cap flexibility they need going forward and all the cap room in the world for the summer of 2010.

The Celtics:

- The C's acquire a clutch, sharp shooting guard similar to the one they lost and 2 1/2 years younger.

- Also a hard nosed, long armed, "been there, done that" 3 to come off the bench as our 6th man.

- Also, with KG's new contract kicking in, scal gone and Pruitt primed to take over the backup PG role, The C's are in position to make a run at a big man for the MLE. Maybe Rasheed?  :o

Moving Ray Allen = the dumbest thing the Celtics could do this off season. But if somehow we could still get Tayshaun from them I'd be all about that. I don't know though I think I may rather acquire Grant Hill, I love that dude.
CB Draft - New York Knicks
PG: George Hill / Nate Robinson
SG: Dwyane Wade / Gerald Henderson / Christian Eyenga
SF:  Grant Hill / Paul George / Earl Clark
PF:  Kenyon Martin / Jordan Hill / (Earl Clark)
C:   Greg Oden / Kurt Thomas / Hilton Armstong

Sorry buddy, moving a 34 shooting guard with a max expiring contract for 2 all-star caliber players is not the "dumbest thing you could do". Now, you might not agree with it and that's fine. I'm just saying that if there was a move out there tempting enough to move Ray this might be the one.

I'd be tempted to trade Paul Pierce instead of Allen in this deal. (Yes, I know Allen has the expiring contract.) With that being said, I doubt Detroit would be interested in either of them. Hamilton and Prince are going to be the guys they build around.

As much as I have come to love Ray, as he is the consummate professional and a clutch shooter with the sweetest stroke I have ever seen; I would do this deal in a heartbeat.

Rip is signed through 2011, which gives the C's another expiring contract after next year.  The same goes for Prince. Detroit is clearly rebuilding and giving them RA (and Scal) will give them cap space in 2010, rather than 2011 (the better FA class) and it will keep them somewhat competitive in the East with the Stuckey/Allen backcourt.

As for the C's it gives them a 2 guard that is 2 years younger than Ray.  Rip's game is similar to the extent that they run him around screens for jump shots, but he has less range.  On the other hand he is a better defensive player and plays with the intensity and grit on that end of the court that meshes well with the C's.  Prince is long, can defend 2-3 positions and can shoot the 3 ball. He could perform the 6th man duties or they could move PP to 6th man to give the bench a spark (don't see Doc doing it but it could happen).

It also gives the C's some expiring contracts in 2011 and perhaps enough $$$ to entice Kevin Durant (you know DA still wants him).  Or they could use those contracts to trade for younger players again.

then hey aren't going to be very good, both of them are older players who are complementary to a superstar that they don't currently have and at best will get in 2010.

Those are guys you add to a team, not focus it around. by the time they get a impact superstar that rip and prince can play off of, they'll be role players at best.

I think Detroit would consider this deal long and hard. they already moved the key piece of the whole back court puzzle in billups, cutting rip's game off at the kness. Why hold on to him for life and death now and hope he's still the same player in 2 years when stucky breaks out or you get a super star?

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I think that Joe D does not regret moving Chauncy at all. I think he does regret resigning rip.

THis is one of the best Allen trades I've seen b/c it kinda makes sense for both sides.

I don't however think Detroit makes this trade.

I remember us all speculating about Antonio McDyess a while back before he returned to Detroit.  I wonder how that worked out for him?   :P

Honest question:  How is Rip in the clutch?

Rip's going to be 32 next year, which isn't all that much younger.  He's got himself a nice extension from the Pistons as well-do we want his contract for that long?

Why hinder what we've build for 2 season. Ray hasn't warranted a trade, he has been great for us (Defense not so much). Just sign Vets (Grant Hill & Antonio McDyess) for cheap. We have to keep our core guys for at least 2 more season.

Regarding your trade, Its the best one so far. But Ray doesn't deserve to be traded especially after this season. pierce isn't clutch, Ray is Money.

TP to Change. You think like me. Keep the core and add some proven vets.
The only 2 pieces I'd trade from our team are BBD and Tony Allen. My idea would be for Boston to get creative and work with a couple teams in a 3 way deal to get rid of them both. And the idea of Pruitt taking over sounds horrible to me. I'd rather resign Marbury for cheap. Pick up Grant Hill to back up Pierce, McDyess to back replace BBD, and maybe another Center project for a 5th big. Get rid of Tony and Baby for a bigger SG and backup C. Tony Allen for signntrade of Damien Wilkins, and signntrade BBD for Pryzabilla or Nick Collison?

Rondo, Marbury
Ray, House
Pierce, Wilkins,Grant Hill
KG, McDyess, Powe, Moore
Perk, Pryzabilla, Scalabrine
Can't stop, Rondo!

There isn't enough MLE to sign Marbury, Hill and  Mcdyess. Not sure any of them would accept an LLE. Tony Allen along with Eddie House basically have a no trade clause on their contracts.

I agree, and I think Joe Dumars does too. They are both getting shipped, the question is where?

I have zero interest in Rip Hamilton's contract.

I'll pass - happily - on this one.
