off season targets

the more i see the physical effects of exhaustion on paul pierce's game, the more i believe that our number one target this off season is a athletic hard defending (and preferably young )3 off the bench.

even better would be a 3 who is long enough and strong enough to pick up some minutes at the 4.

so Hakim Warrick anyone?
any chance we could land him with the mid level?

I could not agree with you more - leaving Pierce without a backstop on the bench borders on the irresponsible.

My background watching Warrick isn't deep enough for me to render an opinion on his game, so I'll defer to some other posters on that one.

The NBA's future are Kobe and LBJ. I believe we should pick players that will either neutralize these guys or take on them squarely (these must be players who should be young, athletic and 6'8" or 6'9" tall).

T-Mac, Earl Clark ,Batum and/or Travis Outlaw are good choices. Plus if we could get Thabeet then we just assembled an awesome team.

T-Mac? I would love that... but I dont think is gonna happen.
I know that he is permanently injured but he is really fun to watch.
My choice would be Nocioni. He has a long contract and Sacramento does not want him so I guess we can have it for cheap (as I wrote in other tread, T. Allen+ Scal+ Pruitt?). He has always been one of my favourites since his time in Spain.

I understand the logic on most of those, but T-Mac is a really, really, bad defender now with all his injuries.

It depends on the money.  Warrick is not worth the MLE for a team like the C's, since he is a pretty terrible defender, and isn't special offensively either.  But if you can somehow get him for 2-3 million per year, he might be worth a look.  I don't think thats the type of guy the C's will be targetting though.  I think they will be looking more for veterans.

From what I've seen of Warrick he would be fine on the offensive side of the ball and would bring some energy off the bench, but he really stinks defensively. I don't know if he would be worth the mid-level in my opinion. I'd rather use that on someone who plays both ends of the floor (Rasheed Wallace?).

Isn't Bill Walker suposed to fill that roll next year? He seems pretty strong and fairly quick. I would hope that he's at least a desent backup 3 by next year.

Grant Hill would be one of my top targets. He'd be a great sixth man for the C's, and would come cheaply.

I have no interest in Barnes if he's coming for a role in the rotation. Deep reserve, as insurance, fine, he'd be good in that role.

If we're still coming up empty I;d try to swing some expiring scrubs... i mean role players... for 1 of the following:

(we can throw in a pick or cash for someone like Foster)

Our starting lineup is set. What we have at 1,2,4 off the bench can work. We need a legit 6th man, and then we'll be bouncing again.

I look at Grant Hill or Matt Barnes.

Grant Hill would be great.  He wants a championship and is willing to play a backup role.  He can't stretch the floor like Posey but does attack the basket from time to time.  He has been ridiculously healthy (given his past history) over the past two years and there is no reason to think he would be otherwise next year (unless he gets randomly injured like any player might).  He is a smart player with a very high basketball IQ that defers, makes plays, and is a great professional.  If Danny thinks we have a realistic shot at signing him, I really hope Danny goes all out for the guy (even offer full MLE for 2-3 years).  Imagine a small ball lineup of Rondo, Ray, Pierce, Hill, KG.  Ouch, devastating.
