  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
Smith doesn't ever seem impressed by anything Rondo does. It seems that anytime Rondo has a good game it has to do with everything, but what Rondo is doing. I remember earlier in the season when Rondo had a crazy triple double against the Pacers, when asked about it Smith swept it under the rug, and chalked it up to the players around him(of course Webber followed his lead). It's like he doesn't want to give respect where respect is due.

I generally like kenny smith but I think our "homer" tommy put it best awhile ago.  Rondo has the potential for hall of fame!  I cannot remember tommy ever coming out with a statement about a celtic.  Granted maybe Bird was a given but this is a bold statement by someone who has been in the league since dinosaurs  ;)
Remember this series was Rose's coming out party?  Guess what nba you are looking at the 2nd best all around pg in the league who is overshadowed by the big 3

Wonder if Celts/Bball analyst Jeff Green wants to reconsider not putting Rondo in the top 5 among PG's.  Not just saying he isn't, but that he won't be with his current abilities.

Rondo was top 5 way before this playoff series started, jump shot be [dang]ed.

This kid has the best talent of any guard in the league.  He has the most all around ability to do anything he wants and anything a team needa and will get better for years to come.

Can he shoot 20 footers with a hand in his face?  C'mon man, who gives a crap?  Put a hand in his face and he's by you for a layup or a dish.  That's what I want from a PG.

I would trade Rondo at this point in his career for any PG except Magic Johnson.  Period.

I don't give a crap what any talking heads have to say about it.  I have 2 eyes of my own and 40 years of experience watching.

that's stretching it a bit - I'd trade him straight up for Chris Paul or Deron Williams today, Magic, Isiah, Stockton, Oscar Robertson, Kidd (in his prime) - saying Rondo is the 2nd best pg of all time essentially is a huge huge stretch

Ive noticed most xpg/2g are a bit more critical of active pg/2g in the NBA...could be they hold them to a higher standard, and a little jealousy thrown in as well.

What I think you meant to say was 'Wouldnt' not would.  Basically telling all of us Rondo lovers you would trade him for anyone, except Magic.  But we all understand what you were trying to say.

The way Rondo has progressed so far in his career leads me to believe he will be considered one of the best if not the best Point in the league for many many years.  Rondo does not get his due around the league because of Garnett, Pierce, and Allen.

As long as those 3 are getting all the attention, Rondo will continue to be just a sneaky player to the media.  All of us Celtic fans understand what it is we have in Rajon Rondo, how he plays and what he brings to this team every night.  If the national media wants to slight him, then so be it, no qualms here.  If the media wants to parade Tony Parker as being better than Rondo, then let them.  I would say its all a matter of opinion.

I do not know a Celtic Fan around who could honestly say they would take Tony Parker over Rajon Rondo and I bet 95% of Celtic Fans would waver mightily for a good while if presented with trades for D.Williams and C. Paul.  Are the former better any better? according to the media they are much better, according to a Celtics fan? its very close.  Do I think D. Williams and C. Paul are better, I do, do I think they are levels ahead of Rondo? not at all.  If Rondo became a consistent offensive threat from 15-23 ft, then he becomes what the media has already made Paul and Williams.  But I do not think that is Rondos game, he is a slash and pass player, always has been, most likely always will be.  Will he develop a consistent jumper? of course he will, but I dont believe that will ever be his first or second option.

Let Kenny Smith talk his talk, he probably believes that he is/was a better PG than Rondo.  I personally believe the whole TNT crew, even Charles, to be bitterly annoying.
Oh well.

The media hasn't made them anything, they're own talent and success has.

Wow.  I heard Smith and I didn't take anything he said as criticism.  I thought he was being very complimentary.
He was also spot on about teams giving Rondo space to shoot.
They all do. It's pick your poison because of Rondo's strenghts (speed and ability to get to the basket) and because of the offensive talent around him.
Nothing wrong with pointing out the truth. That's what those guys get paid to do. That doesn't mean he thinks Rondo isn't an excellent  player.  He never even hinted as much.

He was being critical of the Bulls defense.

Instead of Rondo doing things right, the bulls were doing something wrong.

If they can praise Rose for his game 1 performance through 3 games why can't they give Rondo 5 minutes of halftime.

Well to be fair, the Bulls defense was horrible. And I thought Kenny made an interesting point about why Rondo is able to get so many rebounds. Because his defender sags off, he can get into position under the bigs with no guard in his way.

Yes you are right.  I meant to say WOULD NOT trade Rondo, at this point in his career based on what I've seen to date, for any TRUE PG in the last 20 years except for Magic.  I love Rondo.  He does everything.  I don't want a Chris Paul PG that scores 30 points the way he does - standing by the 3 pt line and jacking them up.  What Rondo does is exactly, in my mind, what a True PG should do - go to the basket relentlessly and dish.  He hustles, he dives, he rebounds, he bleeds....he's gritty and tenacious.  I want a PG to get down and dirty.  When I'm in the foxhole, Rondo's who I want with me.  Not pretty boy Chris Paul.  How many PG's today get triple doubles?  Or who's lines read 18-12-11-5?  Who?  Magic Johnson?  And Magic was 6-8 or 6-9?  Rondo's just some 6-1 little guy playing with giants.  He's all heart.  The savvy this kid has after just 2 starting seasons?  WOW!!!!!!!

Kenny Smith is a likeable dufus. These national guys don't get to watch enough of any guys but Lebron and Kobe to really give a good opinion.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Im not really gonna participate in the whole I wouldnt trade who for what thing.  I could never be a GM simply b/c I get attatched to players and would never trade them.  What I always tell my friend when hes like 'So you wouldnt trade Pierce for Lebron?'  is 'As a GM it would be my job to make the deal, but as fan, not a chance in hell I trade Pierce for anyone.'  I feel the same about Rondo now.

Whats really encouraging about Rondo so far in these playoffs, is that he had the game he did last night IN Chicago.  Last year in the playoffs, even with a 100% healthy squad, Rondo was putting on GREAT peformances in the playoffs, but only at home.  He would vanish on the road, his jumper would never go in and he seemed real tenatative.  Seeing him play that way in Chicago is really a great sight, thats how I feel at least.
