he says rondo has had the luxury of being a poor shooter coming into the league. he says with everyone playing off him so far he has all the angles for driving, passing and becomes a much better shooter when he's given so much space.
there's definitely some truth there but wow, i really think he does'nt give rondo enough credit. does he think he grabs all those boards with brute strength? rondo's rebounding is all freakish speed, quickness and instinct. guys could TRY playing up close but they WILL get toasted. interesting  though.

Just becuase a player came into a good situation, then developed becuase of it, doesn't mean he isn't a good player. but i don't know how people backing off you can make it easier to drive.

He is absolutely right that Rondo is a much better shooter when they give him space.  He is ignoring the fact that if they don't give him space, he blows right past him though.  If Rondo is hitting his wide open shots, he is pretty much unstoppable.  If you play up on him, he blows by you, and if you play off of him, he shoots it over you.

YEP. it's weird how rondo still has doubters in the national media. nobody is saying he's the best point guard in the nba. just that he's pretty kick-arse. it seems kenny smith tries too hard to prove he knows something that nobody else does.

He's wrong. His logic is truly bizarre, of course you give more space to reluctant shooters and that's the smart thing to do.

Anyway, Rondo must keep taking and hitting these open jumpers.

If he keeps making them, at some point they'll stop giving him the space, going under, etc. - opening the game for his drives and passes more.

tha's what i was thinking too. when the day comes where he can consistently punish opposing guards when they go UNDER the pick on pick and rolls. nba is all about the pick and roll.someone needs to remind kenny that he's not in competition and  was never the caliber of player rondo is already.

i can't imagine what rondo would be like with a good J. how wrong i was about rondo, early. my dad saw a little of him and said whoa . "this guy could be a big scorer." i'm telling him "no,he's not that kind of player." we know it's not priority one for rondo(which works out awesome) but the dude will probably go for 50 next year at some point.

Why do you say he is ignoring the fact that he blows past player who D him close?

I didn't sense he was putting down Rondo at all.

Rondo will always get open shots, because if you crowd him, he's going to get by you in a flash.

Rondo is ironically now a dependable open shooter but also during absolute stress crunch times seems to be able to make jumpers even with opponents in his face.

Rondo has this "greatness" about him. Its a good thing in a way kg is out, this way rondo can prove he is legit and a top 5 pg in the league

Tony scores a lot but he's not the passer, defender, or rebounder Rondo is.

Tony's penetration is second to none in the NBA, and he's a good fit for the Spurs.  Certainly a better fit than Rondo would probably be.

But to my green tinted glasses Rondo has passed him this year, at his best. Rondo just needs to keep playing at this high level.

22.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, 9.7 assists, 4 steals  50% shooting  over 3 playoff games?

I think only LeBron is having a better postseason so far.

Rondo has carried us in 3 games.  If we get out of this series... it's officially the "big 4" from here on out (unless KG calls it a career)

This kid has the best talent of any guard in the league.  He has the most all around ability to do anything he wants and anything a team needa and will get better for years to come.

Can he shoot 20 footers with a hand in his face?  C'mon man, who gives a crap?  Put a hand in his face and he's by you for a layup or a dish.  That's what I want from a PG.

I would trade Rondo at this point in his career for any PG except Magic Johnson.  Period.

I don't give a crap what any talking heads have to say about it.  I have 2 eyes of my own and 40 years of experience watching.
