Go ahead and get this over with and sign Big Baby NOW!!  Let Powe go if we have to...but i think Big Baby has turned the corner just like Rondo.  He's playing like a true veteran.  I'm proud of this guy!!!!!

I don't think they need to sign him NOW. LOL  But yeah, I do hope they do re-sign him.  I like Powe too, but his knees are questionable and I'm not sure I'd take the risk of losing Baby and having only a broke down Powe.  But in addition to Baby, we need to find some length to complement him on the bench (other than Mikki Moore of course).

Agreed 100%. And Leon too.
But Leon seems to be very injury-prone, and Baby, with his body, is an injury waiting to happen.
But have some faith in Danny. There's some deadwood to be cleared out after the season, and plenty of roster spots to fill.

The only problems I have with Baby is he's not very good defensively and he's just one of those guys who makes me afraid of what might happen once he gets a big contract.  It's no secret I think that he's playing for (and earning) one right now.

I think you have to sign him, but I also think it's going to be a bit of a gamble.

Big Baby is a talented player, I hope we re-sign him in the offseason. If we had to choose, I choose baby, but I like a lot of other on here, have thought that since he was drafted. I also however think that he's a not player capable of starting consistently for a championship caliber team. When he's on the court he gets beat by his height with some regularity on both sides of the ball. He's streaky like that and players with a lot of legnth that can match his strength are prone to beast on him (yeah...I know...Tim Duncan. That was like one game. See the last Cleveland game where he was constantly hit with length, he got beat bad.).

I like baby I just dunno if its a good idea to over pay for a guy that is that streaky. Of course if he keeps on putting up 26 ppg in the playoffs I guess even I will have to say throw the bank at him.

Previously I preferred Powe, but Baby has made his case, and it's him. Since at the end of the season, due to the salary situation we will probably only keep one, Baby is the choice. It's one of the ugliest jumpers I have ever seen, but that thing falls like chocolate rain.

The one person (other than every coach and player not of the Celtics) that was happy to hear KG would be out in the playoffs has to be Baby's agent.  He can hear a cash register with each made jump shot and big rebound.

Baby is certainly making it harder by consistently hitting that 10-15 foot jump shot and through hustle and smart overall play.

But while he's more dynamic offensively than Powe and probably has a higher BB IQ, BBD is a very weak rebounder and still pretty consistently gets his shot blocked. Unfortunately those are the things I really want from a PF.

IMO, it's a tough choice -- in large part because neither is *really* the long-term answer at the 4. Both are probably best suited as backup PFs. I guess both *could* start but it's not worth breaking the bank for either.

Anything more than Rony Turiaf money (~$4 to $4.5M/yr for 3-4 years) is overpaying for either one.

I wouldn't be opposed to bringing both back, but again it's not worth overpaying and/or hamstringing the teams salary cap to do so.

Put a gun to my head & make me chose, i'd take Powe --- just think he's a more solid fit at the backup PF. But if it's BBD I won't lose any sleep.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I had the biggest argument with my friend at the beginning of the year in this debate (and it is always going on here)- Baby just shows me a little bit more. I am afraid he is adding a million/year with each big playoff effort, but all things being equal, I don't think it is a difficult decision at all.

Good thing Baby is "kinda" fat, and that will prevent him from getting good offers, plus he's quite undersized.

I like both, both should stay and just another big with some length that is a good interior defender, and we should be set.

He hasn't turned any corner.  Chicago's defense is designed to let him shoot the ball - they use Tyrus/Joakim to double on Paul and clog the paint.  Now, to his credit, BBD destroyed the scheme last night - he was knocking down that jumper pretty consistently, and no scheme wants to give up 26 to anybody.  Still, he got his because they were willing to give up that shot - don't get any illusions that Baby will be commanding his own double-teams soon.

It's looking more and more like both Powe and Davis will be back next year.  As long as no one completely falls in love with Davis, and decides to overpay him (which is much less likely than normal due to the current economy), the C's will likely keep him, and Powe's injuries will knock his price down a lot.

  • Rondo = Good
At this point:

Keep BBD for more money.  Sign Leon for slightly more only if we can afford it.  Otherwise, let him go.

Sign a FA over the summer (or maybe trade for somebody) who can replace Powe's skillset (post-d, rebounding, post scoring, drawing fouls etc) only with greater height and length (6'11''+).
