The big 4 get the ink but Perk kept us in this game

Kendrick Perkins played virtually the entire second half tonight. Without his effort on the offensive glass and his presence in the middle on the defensive end we have no chance to win this game, imho. Even Charles lauded him tonight. I am very glad that he finally gets to play at the end of games this year. Even though we won with playing Posey down the stretch last year I really think that you lose a lot when he sits, ie rebounds, blocks and defensive toughness. (also he only missed 2 shots tonight 7-9)

I think that Perk is underappreciated and undervalued around here.

Yeah, Perk isn't so flashy and his blocks aren't usually as noticeable, but he was very important for us, he got a lot of great rebounds and did a good job with Miller in the second half.

Perk has never been underappreciated by me.  Perk does so much that he never gets credit for because they don't show up in the box score.  Like boxing out so a teammate can get a rebound or setting a pick so a teammate can get open for a shot or just intimidating shots or tipping rebounds out to teammates.  If you ever doubted Perk's importance to this team,  you need only look at game 5 of last year's playoffs when they didn't have him.   I love Perk!!!   And last night, Perk was a big, big part of that win.

Yup. He did all the dirty work on the backboards without help, because there's absolutely nothing useful behind him on the bench. Anyone want to think about what happens to the Celtics if he lames a shoulder again, like last year in the playoffs? Absolutely bonechilling.

Even more significantly, he appears to understand that he's got to defend intelligently. If he gets in foul trouble, our chances of winning decrease markedly.

Agreed and no dumb fouls!  The nice thing is Perk is still young and learning/improving.

I love Perk and has always appreciated him.  All my favorite players are the very good defenders (Perk, Rondo, TA, KG, PP -- Pierce is here because he's my #1 favorite player, defense or not ).  But Perk is a beast and we'd be done without him.

Also I agree that Perk needs more touches, especially if Powe is going to miss some games.  We need to establish scoring in the post and with Powe out, Perk is it.

Perk and Rondo got the team off to such a great start. When Doc took Perk out halfway through the first period with two fouls(I would have taken the chance and kept him in till he got another, but not many coaches would actually do that), the Bulls made their comeback.
I admit I don't follow the rest of the NBA as closely as a lot of C-bloggers do, but has any player improved as much over his career as Perk?  Danny and Doc have to get a lot of credit for realizing his potential, because for the first couple of years, I sure didn't.

I still say Perk is the best low post defensive player in the game. Now, Dwight Howard is the best defensive player who plays around the basket because of his ability to stop penetration but if you have to defend one player within 4 feet of the basket I will take Perk over even Howard. His offense appears to be somewhat underrated as well.

TP, you said it all.

While the Bulls have a ton of length, they have no one that can body up with Perk, he is a force down low. I love the fact that he has embraced the intimidator/enforcer role, it's his job to be tough and aggressive down low. Perk is the type of guy that other teams big men don't look forward to playing against and I love it.

Also, if Noah had really decided to fight Perk in their little scuffle, that would have been the quickest fight ever, and Noah would probably just now be waking up after his 12 hour unexpected nap.
