Lets say your the GM of the Rockets, what do YOU do?

Without T-Mac the team is a MUCH better team because the offense runs smoother and he is a massive hole in their defense. On the other hand Artest appears to be an excellent player for them.

Do you trade TMac? and if yes.... where and for what?

i think they're a good passing PG away from being a "real deal" team.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
You either trade him or try to buy him out. He's owed 23 million next season, and honestly its a much higher probability that they buy him out than trade him.

2 ways it works out in a trade:

1) THey trade him to a team looking to cut salary. In that case they take on boucoup salary in years past 2010, but probably get a couple viable players and one sub star (think Baron Davis)

2) They trade him without taking on Salary down the road, so they get other high risk talent in return.

If they buy him out maybe they shed salary and even save a few million bucks in the process.

Personally I think that he'd look great in green

Getting Baron Davis on that team would make them a legit powerhouse.

The Rockets should try to trade McGrady for Vince Carter.

The Rockets are a long way from being able to beat LA. They need a star player on the perimeter, a creative one -- which is hard to find/acquire.

If the Rockets can't get that player in a McGrady trade. Then I think the Rockets are best served by playing out the rest of his contract, see if he can recover from his knee injury, and if not let his contract expire.

Agree as well. Interestingly, it wasn't too long ago that McGrady and Carter were mentioned together as the most disinterested stars in the NBA. However, I think Carter has shown that he's matured this season. The Rockets' biggest flaw, in my opinion, is their lack of a go-to guy on offense that they can give the ball to with time running out on the shot clock and create his own shot. Watching Artest hoist up fadeaway 3s is painful, and sometimes it's hard to throw the ball to Yao in the post. The only caveat would be Carter's age (32) and salary, but I guess McGrady's value isn't too high now.

McGrady to Milwaukee for Micheal Redd.

...I don't know why anyone would want McGrady at this point though.

Low class trash for low class trash? who wins the deal?  :-\ I'd rather have Carter even if age has creeped up on him a bit. McGrady is more injured then I am with my tennis elbow/heel spur/torn capsule in my shoulder, he makes ME feel healthy.

I'd say trade Mcgrady as soon as he appears healthy, or as soon as you can...he hasn't ever helped that team...he will not ever help anyone. He only plays when he feels like it, only does what he wants to...No way could he play for the C's....They can still fool someone enough to get a good player for him...the prob is the $$$, but they will figure it out.

According to the rumors they discussed this deal and when McGrady found out about it he announced that he was going to get season ending surgey on his knee to prevent the trade from happening.

If it's true it says a lot about the player's mentality...

Nobody in their right minds would aquire McGrady as a core piece of their team.  And Vince Carter has twice as much value as McGrady at this point.  McGrady is the equivalent of Jermaine Oneal/Stephon Marbury- a former star with an enormous salary who is no longer a productive player.  Even when healthy, he's a ball pounder who shoots a horrible percentage and plays no defense.  I could see him as a 6th man type like the Pistons wanted AI to be, or how the C's use Marbury.
