Anybody remember Kevin McHale playing on at least one broken ankle? His eyes were about 6 inches into his head, and deep black sockets. I don't know if he can walk without pain to this day.

Yet he played, and contributed. I couldn't have done it. And yet they lost that year. I'm sure Dany remembers. And when Larry had to lay on the the floor between times when he would go in. And bouncing his head off the floor.
Towards the end, Larry's back was so bad that he would spend the night in the hospital in traction between games. It still boggles my mind that this happened.

The real questions are as follows:

1) What is KG's real injury?

2) Can it cause further damage to play on it?

As long as the answer to question number 2 is no, then he should play.  The problem with McHale was that he caused permanent damage.  As long as Garnett isn't gong to do that, let him play.

if he can play, yes, he should play so long as there is no long-term damage he can do. but it seems like he can't run without the knee swelling up and a lot of pain...at least that's what the reports were saying last week when doc ruled him out. if there's one guy who i'd count on playing through just about anything, its kg. that he isn't, and that he isn't raising hell about it means he's really injured. my guess is they're hoping a month of rest might get him good enough to play again if we get to the ECF, which is why doc is saying to put off surgery. but yeah, i think there's no way the celtics, nor kg, would have him not play unless he absolutely couldn't. the playoffs are no given...win or go home. you don't risk resting him unless you know he can't play.

McHale on at least 1 broken foot/ankle. Bird without a back. Schilling with sutures holding together his ligaments.
Willis Reed on a broken leg.
Kirk Gibson with TWOOOO bad legs.

My point is, KG is a legend just like all of those guys, and there's no way in hell he doesn't see the court before these playoffs are over.
From everything I've heard about the type of injury- Bone spurs and a specific sprained ligament in the back of the knee- he should be able to play on it with sufficient rest. I mean Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.- he played on it for 4 games already!
I really don't understand this. I fully expect KG to see the floor before all is said and done.

Can't you see the Celtics limping into the conference finals, losing the first 2 @ clevage, and then KG comes out of the tunnel to start game 3 at home. Garden crumbles.
First time down the court, rondo and KG pick n pop, KG hits the 18 footer. I can't even imagine what the energy in the garden would be like...

Then, at 3:14 yesterday afternoon, the story took another twist when Garnett appeared on the team’s practice floor wearing full workout gear. He proceeded to dribble a basketball as he walked slowly around the perimeter of the court, with strength coach Bryan Doo watching intently. Trainer Ed Lacerte came out of his office and sat at the far end of the floor to watch the event.

He’s thinking about (surgery), and it looks like that’s the way he wants to go,but I think he might wait. We think he should wait, because you never know.

It’s hard because one day he looked great and you think he’s definitely coming back, and then you see him run and you realize he just can’t play.

Rest KG, put those knees to rest and wake the beast for Cleveland!!!

If KG gets back for the playoffs we will surely get to the Finals, à la Willis Reed, Cid Campeador and all the icons of victory :)

Go C's! Go KG!

That was his foot -- and he was never the same player after that as before the injury he was one of the better defensive PF's in the league.  The Celtics team doctor kept insisting that by playing he would do no permanent damage to the foot...and he was quietly fired after the season.

OMG OMG OMG

"Spurs guard Manu Ginobili was seen in a practice uniform after the team's workout on Sunday, despite coach Gregg Popovich telling his players not to consider him a part of the team.

Ginobili is out for the season with a stress fracture in his right distal fibula."

It's a conspiracy!

Next thing you know, he'll be a game time decision for tonight...

In all seriousness, I don't think anyone knows what's going on.  I wouldn't put it past Doc to being playing a game with the team and the league.  You don't really want the players waiting around on him and you can sure throw off other teams if they never know what's going on with KG.

Was your girlfriends dad interviewed after Game 6 of the Finals last year and saying "Anything is possible!!"  Well if he's not "that guy" then he probably won't play.  Only the "Anything is possible" guy(named KG, I think)can play for the Celtics who hasn't played already(unless its Scals).
