From what I understand, KG does not like to sit on the bench unsuited because he can't stand not playing... I'm in the crowd that truly believes KG on the sideline cheerleading would be a lot more beneficial to this team than having him in the locker room, even if it's just for a coaching role. I think his presence alone could give the celts an extra boost through the first two rounds... And who knows, with the inconsitency of all these reports, maybe its possible he could be back for the ecf...

I agree with you, it kind of bugs me not seeing him there, I know it drives him crazy not to play, but I think it's a little selfish to not be there. He definitely would be a motivator on the bench and would help the team emotionally, he just needs to realize this and get out there.

I have ZERO problems with him not being on the bench.  It would bother me though if he's not there with them through the playoffs.

I've been meaning to bring this up for a long time but just haven't got around to doing it.  I always wondered why he didn't sit on the bench but you just answered my question and it is completely SELFISH.  You think Pierce likes not playing.  Do you think Ray does?  They both were on the bench on Wednesday.  KG couldnt be on the bench even then?  No one is bigger than the team and by doing this he clearly thinks he is.  If you're part of the team, you're part of the team at all times.  Get you butt on the bench KG and be a part of this team.  It's the least you could do.

that won't happen (the not being there) paul, ray and rondo have said throughout his injury that he's at the arena, at practice, and in the locker room at half time to talk to the team, he just doesn't like being out on the bench, never has, never will.

i don't see why he should start after 12 years if his teammates are fine with the way he stays with them but doesn't go out to the bench just to please a bunch of people on the internet.

so you weren't cool with paul not sitting on the bench during 2007  in a suit with the elbow injury right?

or does this only apply to KG because your in a bad mood today as we all are?

To be honest, I would like to see Garnett on the bench, because it looks like the team plays with more intensity when he is. In thoughs few games he came back and played limited minutes, I thought guy like Davis and Moore just played harder because he was there on the bench. I could be wrong, but I think it would help the teams moral for him to be there. I'm sure it's not easy for anyone whos injuried to be on the bench, but other do it.

No, I could almost expect this news.  It has been bothering me for a while.  Anybody who does that is being selfish, honestly.  It has not been something Pierce habitually has done.  If he were doing the same I would get on him.  Like I said, NO ONE is bigger than the team.

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale
According to Wyc, the team is going to request it:

Quote
During an interview with WEEI this afternoon, Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck said the team wants Garnett to remain a presence during games even though he won't play. Garnett, whose intensity is legendary, chooses to watch games from the locker room rather than the bench when he is injured because it frustrates him to not be able to contribute. Grousbeck said the Celtics want him to change his policy during the postseason.

"I think that's essential, and I think we're going to ask him to do that," Grousbeck said. "I think Doc, Danny [Ainge], everybody will make it clear that we'd like his presence out there. He is a warrior in every way. I mean, unusual sounds strong, but he is the most different guy any of us has ever met over here. He just does it in his way, and it works, and he became Defensive Player of the Year, MVP formerly, and now a champion. It's Kevin Garnett, it's not anybody else. There's never been another one like him.

"If he needs to sit in the locker room just to be able to keep his head together, we can respect that. And it actually worked pretty well for us in the regular season. But I think, playoff-time, we'd like to have him out on the bench."

I was just reading that in the other thread and was going to quote you in this one, but couldn't figure out how... haha thanks.

It's about time that management told him he has to be on the sidelines. It's a long time coming....He is not above the team!!!!

  • Basketball is like chess, only without the dice
I don't think it matters anything at all to the team; it does to more emotional fans, TVs and sponsors. This is a non-basketball issue, merely a business one.

This has nothing to do with any of that.  If you've ever played on a basketball team you need to have a unified team.  Sponsors get nothing out of KG being on the bench.  If you're part of a team, you're part of it at all times, not when you choose to be  part of it.  Support your guys if you're not doing anything.  Unless you've played on a team, you wouldn't know it makes a difference, but it does.  I'm sure it would be magnified with that guy supporting you being KG.
