It was quite obvious something was not being told to us. Certain quotes like this will shorten career by Ainge and Rivers were a dead giveaway. If KG cannot play at all, you can only imagine how severe this injury really is. He cant even be on bench because he is too excitable and stands the whole time. There is no doubt they have not been telling us the whole story so not to affect playoff sales and fan morale.

Even though I was expecting this horrible news to be released, I still almost spit my coffee out of my mouth when I opened up the site this morning. Ugh..couldn't sleep last night for some reason as well.

I am fearful that KG of the past will never be KG of the future. It is unfortunate.

I still look forward to the playoffs but now my expectations have been lowered to tough round 1 and a really, really tough round 2. We would need to see a super PP and RA and a huge leap by Rondo and Powe/Baby to even get by the Magic.

I just hope KG's career is not done.

calm down, we knwo what it is. its a freaking bone spur. It's not a career threatinging injury. if it was, they would have already done surgery, not rest and rehab.

I think crownsy's take is the most likely scenario of what occurred here but then that begs this question to be answered, how the hell did the doctors not examine his knee so thoroughly they they misdiagnosed a bone spur for a sprain? The man gets paid $22 million a year and is the heart and soul of this team. An MRI, an x-ray, a CAT scan, and any other freaking picture they could have taken should have been dome immediately and found out what the problem was from the beginning.

That said, I still think they have what it takes to win it all. Call me nuts or just an idiot diehard but I still think they have that heart, tenacity, courage, and fight to beat any and every team out there in a 7 game series. GO CELTICS!!!

This is disappointing for sure, but I am not counting out the Celtics!  Come on fans, don't be realistic!  We have gone through adversity before and we have come out stronger.  As long as the Celtics are playing they still have a chance.

Besides, we can't forget our MVP!  I believe that Pierce is not and WILL NOT give up and he will have a performance of a lifetime.  All is not lost and we are still in it.  Unless the Celtics are on a plane coming back to Boston after a loss, I am not giving up.  WE WILL OVERCOME!!!

i think the celtics knew this for a while now and they screwed with everyone..but i know one thing for shore kevin needs to be on that bench thru the playooffs cheering his team mates on ....no i mean he better be on the bench cheering his team on r i will lose respect for him he has to be a cheerleader now and that means being on the bench i dont care how much it hurts him to watch but he needs to be on that bench

I agree they can still win it all.  With KG I fully EXPECTED to win it all.  Now I think we are one of a few teams CAPABLE of winning it all.  I think it's great that we got Leon back at just the right time.  That will help cover for KG's loss a little bit.

i think the team suggested surgery but KG felt he could manage the pain and rehab it...i think surgery prolly would have meant season over....the team knew his was the fate in my opinion

You know I'd really love them to win but I'm also slightly concerned about the mental health of the rest of the basketball world. If they repeat without KG and with Marbury, I'm pretty sure all the Celtic haters are going to lose their minds. Hmm maybe I'm not that concerned after all  ;D

I don't know what our record without KG was but I believe only the Cavs and the Fakers did better than we did in those +/- 20 games w/o KG. It sucks to know that we won't be able to have KG on the floor for the Play Offs and It made me mad when I read it but i still believe in our chances, it will be tougher but possible. We need everybody to step up!!. This team is so strong and they will compete no matter what. Go Celtics!!

  • Doc could learn a thing or two from Norman Dale

I have some concerns about the medical staff, too.  Did they properly diagnose the injury?  Was there anything that could have been done to have KG ready for the playoffs?  Did they advise him that by foregoing surgery, he would likely be out for the entire playoffs?

I know it's hard to predict recovery times, but from what Doc is suggesting, this injury is going to take several months to heal.  If that's the case, I can't see KG electing a non-surgical option if surgery would have had him ready for the playoffs.

I know people want to defend the organization, but the team misdiagnosed Big Al, somehow missing bone chips in his ankle even as he repeatedly complained about persistent pain.  They rushed Wally back from repeated ankle injuries, to the point where he had to be shut down for essentially a season.  There are plenty of other examples, too.  Maybe I'm simply a skeptic, but I don't have 100% confidence that the medical staff is doing its job as well as it could.

i think the team misdiagnosed the injury intialy, thus why we were told it was a sprain until about 3 weeks ago, and by the time they caught the spur, surgery went from 2 month rehab (which if done right away he might have been back for the playoffs with) to season ending due to time constrints.

removing a bone spur is essentialy a scope, its non-invasive. it doesn't matter one iota wheather its done now or a month and a half from now to his recovery, so i'm sure they decided to see if he could go in the playoffs.

CYA from the celtic front office IMO.
