The Red Sox suck donkey balls right now! :(  I remember reading from either McAdam or Masseratti(sp) saying that Theo wanted a drama less team full of nice guys, in his deadpanned image. ::)   Well that's what he got, a dead azz team! >:(

how'd a team built around that style work out in 2007?

I wouldn't say Manny fits in that style, at all, and he was a really important piece, wouldn't you say?

i would say the way 2007 manny played and shut his mouth, he fit that style.

also, we have guys that don't fit that style you want to attribtue to us right now now.

does paps seem like a nice guy robot to you? or papi? how about beckett, noted for his douchbaggery around the league?

what theo looks for is bill james guys. ultra competitive guys who put up stats. personality doesn't factor into it unless they have a "me first, who cares about the team?" attitude, I.E manny-ram after he was told the red sox wouldnt pick up his options right when he wanted them to.

Well, I never was into the whole WBC thing, and am even less into it now after Dice-K's problems last night.
Celtics fan for life.

Bingo... TP

He wants guys who take it personally when they lose. Any team needs a mix of Beckett/Papelbon fiery personalities and J.D. Drew/Jason Bay quieter types, but every one of them is a competitive guy and relatively team-first. Theo wants different things at different positions, but for the most part he wants on-base guys who can hit for power and have at least above average gloves in the field. That's why they went after Texeira as hard as they did, because he fits that mold perfectly.

Well, I never was into the whole WBC thing, and am even less into it now after Dice-K's problems last night.

TP for this as well... I went from lukewarm to expletive ridden tirade on the WBC when Dice-K went out last night... To hear "arm fatigue" makes me want to find Japan manager Tatsunori Hara and kick the living crap out of him for that STUPID 65, 86, and 98 pitch count performance. No more Sox in that BS exhibition tournament ever again. I hope we all take pride in Japan's victory, because apparently it could cost the Sox their 3 starter for who knows how long.

I agree on the WBC.  It is NOT good for pitchers.  They are working too hard too early.
do it

I agree in principle, but im not sure dice K is a good example to pull.

I mean, low pitch counts and control have not been a hallmark of the dice K era.

There's a reason no pitcher alive should be hitting 86 or 98 pitches in a live competitive game in early-mid March, no matter how many pitches he's prone to throwing in July or August. The human arm frankly shouldn't be ratcheted up that quickly with only under a month of serious preparation. It's a terrible time for a competitive tournament. If there's really no other time to do it, then scrap it or use other players. Get it back in the Olympics and take an Olympic break like hockey does. I really don't want to see a Sox player in this again.

Using all my expertice and considerable baseball accumen my opinion as to what is wrong with the Sox thus far is that so far they have sucked.

Bad pitching, no hitting, shotty defense. They suck.

Change those things and they won't suck.

Well Dice-K to the 15 day DL with a mild right shoulder strain.  Just what the Sox need!
