"I want to win," Cuban said Wednesday night when asked about his willingness to take on significant salaries under the right circumstances. "If I think it puts us over the top, hell yeah. I'll just go get another job at Dairy Queen."

hahaha imagine cuban working at a dairy queen... ok good night

He's referring to an incident in 2002

From Wikipedia:
In an interview with the Associated Press, Cuban said that he matches NBA fines with charitable donations of equal amounts.[48] In a nationally publicized incident, he criticized the league's manager of officials, Ed T. Rush, saying that he "wouldn't be able to manage a Dairy Queen." When Dairy Queen management took offense, Cuban worked for a day at a Dairy Queen in Coppell, Texas, where fans lined up in the street to get a Blizzard from the owner of the Mavericks.

sometimes you have to bite your lip, exhale and move on.  So, I have.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I've always been a fan of Cuban, as long as I didn't actually see him talking. Reading about what he says is always funny, but when you see him talking or trying to do stuff you realize he's just a big spoiled brat/dork trying to be the cool kid he never was before he had money. In short, he reads a lot better than he sounds.

the Dairy Queen comment aside, this quote is VERY interesting to me

smart rich people get very, very rich by buying stocks in economies like the one we're in now

it will be interesting to see how well Mark can translate that theory to the NBA

it also brings up the point - if an owner was willing to spend unlimited funds but also had the right GM to get the right kinds of players with those funds (ie. not Isaiah) how much of an advantage is that over teams with limited payrolls?

Wow I didn't realize that... Thanks for the heads up.

That actually is a really good point. The article I got this quote from was actually weighing the possibility of Cuban taking on some bad contracts from the Hornets in an attempt to get CP3.

Granted, New Orleans would have to be beyond dumb to get rid of arguably the best point gaurd of this decade just for financial purposes, so I doubt it would happen. But maybe it's possible for someone who doesn't have as "untouchable" as Paul? Like Bosh or Amare?

Cuban reminds me of those rich barons in Russia that spend millions on competitive stuff like having the best teams, faberge eggs, and chess sets

That is one of two memorable moments of Mark Cuban, the other being him holding his head in his hand after another dumb Antione Walker 3 point attempt that was bricked.

And "dumb" people get poor buying stocks in economies like this.

Actually, it is more luck. Get lucky, write a book. They never ask the guys who did the same thing but ended up poor to write books.

They should ask people who win powerball to write books on how to become a millionaire.

But Cuban actually created a business to get rich. I like the guy. He got rich, and he decide to enjoy it instead of hoarding it. That's the way be if you sell a business for a ton of money. Who needs to dies with billions in the bank. Once you get the money, do the things you always wanted to do.
