I get in my car to drive home from my night class earlier tonight (9 PM), which is about a 25 minute drive.

I turn on the radio, switch the dial to WEEI, "Celtics Radio Network" to listen to the game, and what do I hear? Yes, the Red Sox, who are playing in their 2nd game of the season (meanwhile, the celtics are in a battle for the second seed coming down the wire).

Please don't get me wrong, I love the red sox. I just don't love them in April. I have been acustomed to turning on the radio on wednesdays after my night class and listening to my buddy Max give some very insightful color commentary to my favorite team, the celtics. Instead, I had to listen to how badly the redsox were getting their butts kicked.

I may be frustrated because I am biased, since the Celtics are my favorite of the 4 Boston sports team (I do love them all). I also understand that we live in Red Sox Nation, not Celtic Nation, so it makes sense for WEEI to play the sox over the celts. But come on, which of the two teams actually is playing for something right now?

Its on 680, bud. They broadcast games with Maxwell and Grande on 680 AM.
Grab a few boards, keep the TO's under 14, close out on shooters and we'll win.

The Celtics played the Nets tonight: Im happy. I live in NY. I get Nets games, and I don't have league Pass.

Tonight I could have watched:

Knicks V Pistons
Raptors V Pacers
Portland V San An
Yankees @ Orioles
Syracuse Crunch V Binghamton Senators
A six month old Uconn v Wisconsn game.

But I couldn't watch the Nets game. Sonofa....

Money talks...WEEI can sell a lot more ad space for Sox games than they can for a Celts game.

That is very annoying and while we are on the subject I get annoyed by the people that wear hats of other teams that they are not fans of. A kid I know was claiming to be the biggest sox fan you would ever meet while wearing a Dodgers hat. Thatd be like me walking around in a Miami heat shirt, just annoys me if you claim to be a big fan.

It's "Red Sox Wednesday".  Generally, Red Sox games are on WEEI's sister station, 680, and the C's are on WEEI.  However, every Wednesday, the Sox are on WEEI, so if the C's are playing, they swap to 680.

This has nothing to do with a Red Sox versus Celtics thing, it is just one of their promotional things, and there happened to be a scheduling conflict because of it.

BTW, did anyone listen to the game on 680 last night?  I guess Meter was filling in for Grande.  Was he any good?  I am not a huge Grande fan, so I wouldn't mind if someone ended up beating him out at some point.

Yeah I would have listened to it had I known that it was on this station. I live in Western Mass, would that 680 AM reach out here?

Good question.  Probably not, but they may be syndicated on another station out there.  It might be worth contacting WEEI.

I couldn't hear the game, because all I got on 680 was static.

Is there any reason why these stations, if they are as popular as they say, can't be broadcast in FM?  That way I could actually hear the game if I am more than 5 miles from the studio.

WEEI now has FM stations all across NE.  Their original station 850 Boston is one of the strongest signals in the area.

You are right...this town will always talk baseball before anything else.....Consider the poor Bruins, they don't even get coverage in hockey circles, no matter what they do, they aren't even in the news. All the major papaers cover any team in hockey except them....After we win this year, I hope the Bruins do also...! I do like the sox...but in the summer i Cannot sit inside and watch anything that long.....
