My feeling is that if he performs well in the playoffs, he could get a decent cotract next year, which I'm sure the Celtics probably aren't willing to give him. But if he continues to play at the level he's at now (although he has been getting better), we might be able to sign him again next season.

I think with a training camp under his belt he can be a very good player with this team. I'm just not sure if he is willing to accept a backup role for yet another season, since he probably only has a few years left of playing at a high level.

The only thing for certain is....
Starbury will get a tatoo to match mike tyson's over his face!

It depends, as you said, on how well he does in the playoffs. I don't know if any other teams would be interested in him, but I'd love to have Starbury for another year (as long as he doesn't take all of the MLE).

Hes just been doing his job even if he's struggling for a bit. But he's just started to play better with the team and I want him back next year because we are getting him for nothing.. and he makes a decent 6th man or backup point guard.

i very much doubt steph has any interest in playing 20 minutes a night. He thinks he is a legit starting NBA gaurd, and he wont get to show that here.

that said, i love what he's doing for us right now and hope he keeps it up.

Wow, I sure don't love how he's playing.  It's gotten a little better, but not much.  Free Gabe Pruitt!

As for Marbury's future, I don't care, unless he ratchets up his game to the point where I might consider keeping him for the veterans' minimum.

I don't think he has shown enough, or will get enough minutes in the playoffs, for any team to take a real chance on him and offer him any significant money. I wouldn't be surprised to see him back as a Celtic next season, fighting it out against Allen Iverson for minutes, AHAHAHAHAHAH!!!

I'm kind of in accord with this line of thought here as well. He has looked better of late but he looked so bad in the beginning I'm not sure how his overall play stacks up to regular backups. But he's not exactly setting the house on fire here.

As for Gabe, I like his size, his shot, and his attitude but I still question whether he can run a team confidently. He's not assertive out there even as a backup. He's hesitant and he still doesn't seem like he wants the ball. Perhaps next year another veteran PG may be the real order of the day.

My gut tells me that he's one and done in Boston.

If he is staying on good behavior, I'd bring him back as veteran PG backup. He will only be better next year, with a full training camp and no drama from the knicks.

Not a chance.  It is one thing to take the short term chance.  No way the take a long term chance.

Agreed.  And if he is anywhere good enough to deserve to come back, then he will be looking for more than the vet minimum, which is all the C's would be offering...not to mention the opportunity to start.

I really would not be surprised if he is playing overseas next year.  I think the money will lure him, but more than that, he is a unique personality in the NBA, and I think he would genuinely like to play over seas.

His contributions haven't been all that positive. I think he's outta here after the playoffs end.

The problem is, what do we mean by "perform well"?  If he emerges as a 6th man, sure, he will get a decent contract.

BUT ...
Marbury's been averaging 17 mins per game; I doubt he will play more than 10-12 mins per game once the playoffs start (for the record, Cassell played 12 mins a game in the playoffs last year).

--> I think Marbury is headed for a 1-2 year vet min contract, possibly the "$1M exception".
Celtics fan for life.
