No issue what so ever with Michael Jordan David Robinson and John Stockton what so ever. But please explain to me how Jerry Sloan does not have to wait. What is the first thing you think of when you think of C Vivian stringer. To me its the head coach of rutgers that got herself a book deal because she encouraged her team to be so sensitive after the don imus comments. The sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me approach would have been much better What don imus thinks of you is irrelavent what your teammates think and what your family thinks of you and what you think of yourself is much more important and she gets in. Every single year Jim Rice did not get in the hall of fame there was outrage on sports radio Why does DJ not get that same treatment by fans as Rice got every year he got screwed? The only justification of anything is as great as Stockton and Robinson were and both being as hall of fame worthy as they are you could argue Jordan was that great going in the hall of fame alone could have been considered but dj not being in this hall of fame today is rediculous.

maybe cause he wasnt that flashy ball handler and he didnt compete in the dunk contest and win. he didnt score 30pt a game?

celtics fans know what he brought to the table. stats cant show what this man has done for the celtics....it is a shame

In terms of your main point, I agree.  DJ needs to be in the Hall of Fame.  It shocks me how many great NBA players aren't in (DJ, Jo Jo White, Bernard King, Artis Gilmore, Spencer Haywood, Chris Mullin), as compared to the coaches and contributors who do.

Not counting this year's class, there are 135 players, 81 coaches, and 54 contributors (plus 13 referees and 6 teams).  In other words, there are more non-players in the Hall than there are players.  That makes no sense to me.

(In terms of Vivian Stringer, you're correct that she's best known for the Imus thing, but regarding her credentials, she's as good as they come in women's basketball.)

DJ's biggest contributions during "the Golden Era" of the 80's was on defense (especially vs. Magic in the Finals).  Unfortunately, the Hall of Fame doesn't measure defensive contributions equally with offensive.  Shame.

What is up with the hall, Of course Stockton, Robinson, Jordan and Sloan should be in. And maybe this was a bad year with those three players, but DJ should have been in years ago. When he finally goes in that will be the first team in a long time that has four starters from one team in the hall. Perhaps the old knicks and celtics could match that. DJ will get his place amongst the greats someday, only Danny from those teams never will get in, but heck he brough back a title

Interesting stats on the breakdown of players v. coaches/contributors. It's just part of larger problems with the Hall masquerading as one Hall for all aspects of basketball - men's and women's, pro, college and international - it's just too big. That's one big reason why so many more coaches/contributors are in. Not so many international players from previous years are known and/or appreciated but the coaches, managers and administrators who oversaw the development of international programs get recognized. In college ball, very few male players make it to the Hall purely by virtue of collegiate accomplishments since they're only there for a few years, but the coaches, who stay with the programs for decades, get recognized in the Hall. Coach K? Yes. Christian Laettner? Not so much. Just like you'll see Roy Williams get enshrined, but not Tyler Hansbrough, who was one of the best college players ever but won't do much in the NBA. If it's really a Hall for college basketball, it should include the best college players even if they didn't do much in the pros.

Yes, I think DJ should be in, but I'm not surprised he didn't make it with all these guys coming up at the same time. He's got a few more cracks at it coming up, likely with less noteworthy competition. Bernard King is up there too, that guy belongs in the Hall as much as or more than DJ.
Go Celtics.

In a way Im kind of happy that DJ didn't get in....it makes his exclusion before his death even more tragic. It was a travesty before that he wasn't it. It doesn't make it worse now that he's not in after he died.

EDIT: Im not saying I wouldn't be glad if he got in now, or last year. I just think if he would've gotten in last year, it would've diminished his career, which deserved it on its own merit

The thing that bugs me is that he gets overlooked for his Finals MVP that he got playing for the Sonics in '79.  You might say that Chauncey Billups won a Finals MVP and doesn't belong in the Hall--and you'd be right--however, Chauncey also hasn't won two other championships while being the preeminent defensive PG in basketball for much of a decade.  If DJ was JUST the '79 Finals MVP or JUST the strong defensive PG on two Larry Bird championship teams, I could see not letting him in.  But since he was both, I don't see how he can't be let in.

Also, let's keep in mind that Larry Bird called him the greatest player he ever played with.  Pretty high praise...(then again, given Larry's recent talent judgments in his management of the Pacers, maybe he isn't the best judge of talent after all... ;D).
