i really think it's gonna be one of these teams for iverson next year.with how it's worked out in detroit, and now his reaction to coming off the bench etc i don't see many other options that could work out to satisy HIM. this list may even be a little too long. a.i. wants to start and he wants a true chance at a title.i think the lakers are the best fit actually.

Tony Kornheiser (PTI) thinks Larry Brown might want him in Charlotte. Tony has some inside information when it comes to Larry Brown, so we'll see.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

I could see a team trying to sell tickets bringing in AI next year.

I think the Lakers will go after Jason Kidd and get him. Honestly, I could see Cuban trying to sign AI and the Rockets might be an option too.

How about the Knicks?  They need a "me-first" on that team.  I don't think they have enough.

That's my thought, too.  Even though he'd make no sense for their team on the court, I could see the Clippers going after him.  The Bobcats, as mentioned by Chief, could be an option, too.

I don't see any contender offering him a deal.  Maybe, as cornbreadsmart said, Houston gets desperate and makes him an offer.  However, I think the risk is too high for just about any team that is in legit title contention.

AI is still a very talented player, and on paper, he could help just about any team in the league.  However, mentally he's not willing to buy into the "ubuntu" concept, and because of that, I think most teams will stay away from him.

I don't think Otis Smith will take a chance on a character like Iverson. Smith was so turned off by Marbury's character that he gave up a first round pick, and committed to $10mil for Rafer Alston. Also, he intelligently, realizes Dwight Howard isn't ready to rule that locker room, which is a big reason why he's so wary of characters.

I don't think Phil Jackson will be interested in a ball stopper like Iverson, someone who'll ruin his lovely offense.

I don't think Kevin Pritchard will sign Iverson either. There have been reports of his uneasiness with adding a ball dominating guard alongside his star Brandon Roy.

I don't think Daryl Morey will sign Allen Iverson, simply because just about everything he has done so far has been pure brilliance. Also, he has two young point guards there whom he clearly rates highly.

I don't think any of those four teams will make a run at Iverson this summer.

Is this even true anymore?

Denver didn't get anywhere near the financial bump they expected to get after acquiring Iverson, and openly bemoaned the lack of income from the move. The Sixers also suffered in Iverson's last years there too, with reports that his draw at the box office was waning. I'd love to know more about Detroit's situation, I know they got a little boost right at the start of his acquisition but I bet that wore off pretty quickly.

Is this reality, or just perception?

Not that it matters, since the perception is believed to be true anyway. Several teams will definitely believe, like Denver did, that Iverson's will bring them financial success.

The Clippers are the team I'm wondering about too.

Denver already had a draw with Melo.  So, AI creating a small bump in a football town is not a surprise.

But teams like Clippers, Sac, Bucks, Pacers or even the 76ers could use the ticket sale bump.

Personally, I think the perfect team for AI is Memphis, for these reasons.

1. They can offer him a starting job.
2. They REALLY need some help at the box office, and Iverson puts butts in the seats.
3. Mayo is the PERFECT guy for him to play next to.  Mayo can score, but he is at his best as a complimentary player who can defense, distribute, and basically be the Pippen to Iverson's Jordan.  This will also serve the purpose of helping to keep Mayo from falling into some bad habits from being the "man" on a bad team, and help him learn to be an extraordinary complimentary player, rather than an average go-to guy.
4. They have the cap space to give him a little more than the MLE.

I think if they sign him, and can get lucky in the draft, the Grizzlies could be a MUCH improved team next year.

Who cares?  He's washed up.  I'm just glad it wasn't us or there would be no KG and no #17.

If they sign AI, what lineup do they go with?  Do they give up on the Conley experiment, or do they go ultra-small with a lineup of Gasol/Gay/Mayo/AI/Conley?

I hear what you're saying about Mayo, but I don't think there's any chance of him settling into a nice career as a complementary player.  O.J. has a primary scorer's mentality, for better or for worse.

AI's appeal to fans is not what it use to be...Mayo is the present/future,AI is the past, why would they want him(Memphis)?
