Attempt at realism minus any knowledge of salary cap or availability:

first:  No to Villanueva.  No to Drew Gooden.  And no to Sheed (dangerous combo of charisma and lameness)

yes to Childress, DWEST, Battier, Nene (fantasy), Joe Smith, Anthony Randolph (fantasy for future).

But actually, we may already be nearly set for next year.  so unless a miracle trade that can't be turned down shows up:

we need to keep the starting 5 in tact.  Next, we need to sign BOTH Powe and Big Baby.  With Garnett getting older, these two are two PROVEN players, and both can backup at center in a pinch.  Powe equals points, rebounds and energy.  Davis equals major energy, passing, smarts, bulk, some points, etc... Davis ceiling is still partly unknown...so let's see where it goes, and Powe is proven.  Sign 'em both Danny.  If Marbury convinces Celts he'll stay happy at backup all next year, and he's well liked, then sign him again.  Steph could get a couple of rings if he'll just stay happy.  And that would mean we lucked into something special.  Sign Tony Allen again and challenge Walker and Giddens to take playing time from him (could trade Tony if desired once Giddens/Walker is proven at least on defensive end).  Sign House again if he's not already.  Too many players?  Almost, but health of big three must be considered.

I agree we still need our Posey replacement, so if Danny wants to give up on Tony Allen and doesn't think Walker/Giddens is ready, then we may have to trade one of Powe Davis plus something else for a special, veteran small forward.  But I wouldn't do that.  I'd sign Powe and Davis and give Allen/Giddens/Walker the backup SF task, at least for the first half of next year.

Rasheed Wallace.  Would he play for the MLE to get a ring?

I highly doubt this, considering that he already has a ring.

Maybe he wants two.

The problem these veterans have, especially in today's economy, is that good teams are mostly limited to the MLE.  Bad tema in the process of rebuilding are the ones with cap space.  Guys in their early to mid 30s don't want to endure a season on a lottery team. The exception would be players whose investments have gone completely South and need every penny.

I'm not sure it'll be a question of desire/willingness ... more a question of is there any team in the league that would pay him more than the MLE next season? I think it's doubtful he gets any offers above that.

So, yes, I think there's a very good chance that Rasheed accepts the MLE next season.

He and KG remain good friends to this day. I'd take him on this team. 25-30 min of Rasheed Wallace would be awesome I think. And I think Rasheed would accept less to play on a winner if he knew he was gonna get enough burn.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity...

Realistically, I go for Sheed (hopefully he'll take the MLE) or McDyess to back up the 4/5 spot.  I'd like to see both Powe and BBD back but if they sign Sheed, do the C's really need them both at that point -- not really.  Keep BBD of those two.

I'd like to see Grant Hill for a limited run.  A trade of our expirings (TA, Scal, Pruitt [resigned for a year with the team option] -- reluctant to include House at this point based on his current production) to Phoenix might get that done.  He'd be a solid 3 off the bench.  Gives Walker and Giddens some time to mature but both could get some time at the backup 2 and 3 with Hill on the floor providing leadership.

Doubtful Marbury comes back for vet minimum.  Moore can be let go with Sheed/Mcdyess in the fold -- Mikki wants playing time and would be buried as the 5th big on this team.

All that's left is getting a vet PG (haven't checked who's available) and filling a couple of other roster spots while leaving 1 or 2 spots open for another pickup at waiver time next year.  If the 2nd round pick sticks next year, there'd still be a spot open for a late season pick up.

Rondo, Ray, PP, KG, Perk, BBD, Sheed, House, Hill, Walker, Giddens, Vet PG, 5th Big, 2nd round pick and 1 spot for a late pick up.  Not a bad team to go get another title and realistic.

I have to believe there is 0% chance Sheed will be walking through those doors.  First there no way he signs for minimum and secondly he's about as done done can be.  I guess I'm watching a different game than some of you.  The sheed I know is 6'11 3 pt shooter...and that's without mentioning the completely obvious contempt he has for being a good teammate.

No offense to the Boston Sheed crew.

TP thanks for this post.  Pretty much spot on with how I feel.  I think the C's are set up pretty well.

Well, the OP loves tweeners. All of those players you listed can't be tied down to one position.

Love the Grant Hill idea. He's been one of my favs since he was a rook.

Also like Childress. I think Atlanta still retains his rights if he comes back overseas. I read that he wasn't in love with everything over there, but I'm not too sure.

Curious what David Lee will do this offseason. He's intriguing to me...not great at 1v1 defense, but a great hustler and rebounder. Could see him fitting in well here.

I also like a few young guys, but their team probably values them a lot, too: Ronnie Brewer, George Hill, Outlaw, Weaver. They are all on rookie contracts, but for the future...

And sorry if it looked like I insulted the op. I really didn't. I like a lot of tweeners, too. They are generally undervalued.

I absolutely love the idea of Grant Hill becoming a Celtic. :D

I would also like to see what happens with David Lee,  they guy is a double double machine, but even if he did end up here you have to consider if he could put up good enough numbers off the bench.

Steve Nash would be an amazing back-up for Rondo

CB Draft - New York Knicks
PG: George Hill / Nate Robinson
SG: Dwyane Wade / Gerald Henderson / Christian Eyenga
SF:  Grant Hill / Paul George / Earl Clark
PF:  Kenyon Martin / Jordan Hill / (Earl Clark)
C:   Greg Oden / Kurt Thomas / Hilton Armstong

Thanks for the TP.  While Sheed may be a fine person off the court, he has not shown much lately...I can't believe there is anyone out there who'd rather have Sheed on the Celts next year than Powe.  We need to keep our hungry, motivated players and not throw the future away in the meantime...Yes we need another tall guy who's a good or great defender, but we can get that without signing Sheed.  For the first half of next year we'll be fine with Garnett, Perk, Powe, Baby and maybe Erden. Then later, If Erden's defense is deemed not good enough for their playoff run, we can get a Joe Smith/P.J. Brown type....

The hardest to keep will be Marbury.  He'll more likely latch on with some other veteran, championship-driven team as a starter, his Boston experience making him more attractive to such a team. Don't know it how it will turn out for Steph, but he's doing everything right right now.

I'd love to see Linas Kleiza in green next year. I think that's realistic.
