As someone who was looking forward to this show, it really ticks me off. I'm not the biggest Jay Leno fan but I usually find that nothing is good on at 10pm. Do people actually watch local news? I know I will never watch 7 news again because of this.

I'm glad this happened, having Jay Leno taking 5 primetime spots in the week really really sucks.

WHDH might have to kiss their NBC affiliation goodbye.

Wow.  That's a bold (and dumb) move.

They want to compete with the 10 oclock news on Fox 25 by making a local hour long news show, and the quote from the WHDH head was interesting, basically saying "This show won't be good."

Agreed though Dons, NBC will pull WHDH before they pull Leno.

Jay Leno sucks his show will be an epic failure, but this doesn't look good for WHDH.

They don't have to pull either.

Why can't they just air one on their HD1 channel, and the other on HD2?  They both come free over-the-air.

Problem solved.
God bless and good night!

That won't fly with NBC... This move is a slap in the face to the network. NBC has already said they'll strip the NBC affiliation from WHDH if this happens.

Goodbye office, 30 rock, etc. until the new station comes along

It'd be interesting to see what over the air station would get the NBC affiliation.  TV38 is owned by WBZ which is the local CBS affiliate so you can count that out and I think Channel 56 is owned by WHDH so that would obviously be out.

That would defeat the purpose.  They already are airing their news broadcast at 10 on their sister station (56...I forget the call letters), and want to simulcast it, since no one watched 56, other than teenage girls, who won't watch the news anyways.  They are trying to get higher ratings, and in order to do that, they don't want to be competing against themselves.

Anyways, I think its dumb, because I think Leno is actually going to get good ratings in that time slot.

I wonder if 38 would be an option.  I don't know if there are any rules that one company can't own affiliates of multiple networks (for example, WHDH owns an NBC and CW affiliate).

But I also think this could open up an opportunity for someone new to step in, and start a new over the air station in the Boston Market.

Also, my channel 3 is the Home Shopping Network right now, is it possible to work a deal where they try a new channel there where the old comcast channel used to be? Give a new station on that channel a shot with an NBC affiliation now?

Then it's settled. I'm going to dump my gf and sell my house and travel to the U.S. I'm going to find me a cutie in one of those mini Red Sox jersey shirts and weasel my way into marrying her. We're going to move to Boston and stay with her folks until I get a steady job under my belt, and we're NOT going to be able to watch Jay Leno in primetime. I have no choice. God bless America.
