Okay I got a project that I need to do for Biology class but I have no idea what to do. It's like my mind has blanked out when it comes to that class.
You are a laboratory scientist who has recently learned how to combine traits from various organisms to produce a new species- a process known as "selective breeding". Identified as an exemplary scientist, your boss has targeted you to lead a project in selective breeding. As the lead scientist, you must select traits according to the criteria provided to produce a new ficticious species. Display your choices in a Powerpoint.
Traits chosen must include the following:
2 single allele traits
1 codominant trait
1 multiple allele trait
1 trait exhibiting incomplete dominance
1 sex-linked trait
-Does anyone have a clue as to what I need to do?
Are you in AP? This is hard.
It's been a looooonnnngggg time since I've even needed to think this way, but I'll see what I can do.
I suggest you make a unicorn or a dragon or something easy to think of.
The sex linked trait is easiest. You inherit your weiner from your father and your breasts from your mom. There has to be some way to separate out the boys from the girls in this animal you make.
Incomplete dominance. If wikipedia is to be believed ( AND LOTS OF TIMES IT'S NOT) you need a trait that could be blended from both parents like color of the horse. A white horse and a black horse will make a brown one or something.
Codominant is something where the animal could get one thing from one parent and another from another. Like maybe there are some unicorns with short hair manes and others with long hairs and if they mate you get short and long hairs in the mane.
A single allele I think means only the dominant trait will be seen. A single dominant trait. So maybe the dominant trait is the unicorn horn. A unicorn with a long horn and one with a short horn get together and because long horn is dominant you get a long horn
I think a multiple allele would be something where many genes could be at play like eye color. I'm not sure
Is there a scientist in the house?
