I'm optimistic that KG will be fine come playoff time. But the fact that he's not playing tonight against Atlanta makes me pause and imagine the possibility that he just can't get healthy for the playoffs.

Without KG, what are Boston's odds of winning the title?

Obviously, the odds aren't as good. And they're even less good if we can't get Allen, Powe, etc. healthy. But if everyone is reasonably healthy and can contribute, I still think this team would give anyone a run for their money without KG - even Cleveland, who I see as the biggest barrier to #18.

Pierce, Allen, and Rondo may not be the largest trio in the NBA, but still, that's a pretty good trio of players to carry your team. Perkins, Powe, Baby, and House have championship experience and play with grit. Clearly, I don't relish the thought of not having KG in the playoffs, but I'd love to see this team fight their way back to the Finals if KG can't play.

Since it's clear KG's not 100% healthy, he really, REALLY should sit until like the last two games of the season. It bothers me that even with only the limited minutes, KG wasn't able to get through the full shootaround today.

I guess C's nation is feeling a little queezy cause we lost to the Magic. But apart from that, we're not in horrible shape just yet. It's where we are when it's finally go time.

Let's see there's still 2 HOFers, an almost allstar PG and an excellent defensive center which doesn't look that bad on paper but the drop off in the defense without KG will be a big problem in the playoffs. If they could play the way they did against Cleveland for every game then I'd be optimistic that the new Big 3 could will them to finals. But with the team's inconsistency this season probably not.
Anyway 3 weeks until the playoffs so I'm still praying the team will be back at full strength. Well almost, I'm assuming Scal isn't coming back.

What are the odds of winning if we took KG back, but lost Pierce for the playoffs?  :-\
True Celtic = Leon Powe

It depends whether the question is without KG completely for the playoffs or with a KG that would be used sparingly.

I think we can get by round 1 without K and perhaps squeeze by Orlando using KG in spots (as in 20-25 minutes in road games) -- as long as BBD, Rondo and Powe are healthy.

I can't see beating Cleveland or LA without KG playing 30-35 a game -- however, wouldn't KG have to be dramatically infirmed to keep him out of the ECF or NBA finals? Can't see him doing anything other than 'gutting it out'.  I am sure he'd play tonight if this were the Finals.

While respecting the opinions of those who've posted on this thread, I have to think that the odds are somewhat better than 0.0% I mean, this team doesn't deserve even a 3-4% chance without KG? Personally, I think there's at least a 50% chance they get out of the 2nd round against Orlando without KG. The odds of being Cleveland after that? Admittedly, very low. But zero? I'd give them 10% odds against Cleveland myself. And if they get past Cleveland and back to the Finals, who cares about the odds.

But I understand. By saying 0.0%, you're putting emphasis on a reasonable point which is that it would take a small miracle to win the title.

i don't ever remember an NBA defending champion going thru the injury epidemic that has hit the Celtics this season - i know '87 was rough, but this season has been worse and more frustrating. maybe it's just not our year, but i want at least one more banner out of this group in the worst way.

anyone remember a comparison to the C's bad luck this year ?

Russell - Cowens - Bird - Garnett
