OK, What happened here? I know we had a chance to get Andres Nocioni, but something stopped it. Who were we offering or what was Sac wanting in return that we couldn't give up? The guy is already opening saying he's not happy there, and is sure it wont get better anytime soon. How soon could we trade for him for the next season?

Would you rather get out of Sacramento? Andres Nocioni: If I can get something better, I will make the decision. But if Sacramento can improve, staying is no big deal. The thing is, here they are more focused on not losing money than on the team that's coming. Olé

Andres Nocioni: "(Sacramento) is the worst team and being here you find out why... There are many young guys that want to find their niche, but they are so far away... There's no chemistry or teamwork. I can't see how this team could be competitive in the near future in the West... The draft is going to save no one. I don't know, I'll see what happens this summer." Olé

Andres Nocioni: Last year I lost all hope they would pass the ball to me (laughs). I just waited on the corner watching what happened. If the ball came, it came... It rarely did (laughs). It's the same thing in Sacramento. There's a lot of young people and a lot of individualistic play. Olé
I couldn't get a good link b/c it was from a foreign site.
Can't stop, Rondo!

I think the trade was something like Tony Allen, Scal, Giddens and one of BBD/Powe for Nocioni.  Something like that.

Apparently the Celtics walked away from the deal.  Seems like a no-brainer, but keep in mind that Scal and TA were not injured at that time.  Also, Nocioni has a hefty contract, and trading the above players for Nocioni *now* would mean the Cs wouldn't be able to trade the same players *later* for someone else.  In other words, don't forget the option value of having players with expiring contracts...
Celtics fan for life.

El Chapu is always very candid.  ;D

Re: the Celtics, he just says that there was a chance and that other top teams also asked for him.

Nocioni confesses he's been playing the entire season on a bum knee. Thank God we didn't trade for him.

I really like Nocioni for lots of reasons, but his contract is too pricey.

I thought I'd heard that Sacramento decided they wanted to keep him instead of trying to dump his salary.

I would love to have Nocioni on our team.  He's more than an adequate Posey replacement.  He's a winner and competitor and he's a beast come playoff time-a real psycho.

Thats what I'm saying. Besides the guy having range, he likes to drive to the basket, PLUS, he draws alot of fouls with charges. Energetic player with exp and game. We should have taken the deal

That's what I remember reading. Sac had some idea to use him as a corner stone with Martin or something. Eitherway, we lost him for now, but i don't see his contract being any worse than any other free agent we'll end up needing next year. With taking him, it's 1 less piece to the puzzle of having a deep team. We have to find a Pierce backup before next season

I've gotta believe tat the Celtics will keep only one of the two young PFs, Baby and Powe. So why not do a sign and trade with one of them, whichever Sacramento likes most and is willing to pay the most, and package Bazby/Powe and Allen and someone or something else(cash, Sactown really likes cash) for Nocioni. It then still leaves the MLE for addressing the hole at the backup center position with Nesterovic, Pachulia, or Wallace, if any will come here for that amount.

So let's assume Sacramento makes the trade for either Powe or Baby and Tony and Giddens plus cash for Nocioni while giving either Powe or Baby a 4-year/$16 million contract. That leaves the MLE going to let's say Pachulia. Here's the roster next year:

PG Rondo/Pruitt
SG Allen/House
SF Pierce/Nocioni/Walker
PF KG/Powe or Baby/Scal
C Perk/Pachulia

That leaves 3 spots open for a backup PG, SG and C. Maybe the bring Erden over for the third center spot and some time with the big club and NBADL. I good combo guard to fill a position would be ideal and leave a spot open for the inevitable FA sign on after he has been bought out addition.

Given the financial climate, and the upcoming CBA negotiations, I just don't see the C's taking on a contract like that.

That's also why I'm not sure that Leon and BBD are up for bug paydays. Someone might pay them decent money, but they both have limitations as players.

I agree.  While it only takes one team, I have a hard time seeing anyone blowing them away with offers (remember, they will be RFA's), given the financial problems many teams are having, as well as the other FA's that will be out there.

I expect this offseason to be very similar to the trade deadline this year.  There will be VERY few teams looking to take on salary, but just about everyone will be looking for ways to save some cash.

The obvious everbody wins solution

Get Nocioni some dread extensions and a goatee and stick him in Mikki Moore's uniform come  playoff time.  It's not like the Kings will need him at that point, and he'll already be in game shape.  Kings keep their man, but he gets to play for a contender.

I think, from what I heard, both teams said no because Powe wasn't going to be put into the deal. And I honestly don't blame Danny for not trading all those contracts along with two or three bigs. We wouldn't last long at all in the playoffs.

But if it was just Tony, Scal, Davis and a filler or something it was silly to pass up. Hopefully we'll be able to get him this summer or at the trade deadline next year with Scal and Tony's contracts plus fillers.

Something like Scalabrine, Tony Allen, and Giddens for Nocioni would work salary wise this upcoming year. It gives the Celtics a solid player without using any of the MLE, and it saves the Kings a ton money short term and long term. I don't think the Celtics will be pinching pennies, they are in a position to win.

I wouldn't even want Nocioni if we didnt have to give up any players to get him with his contract. - $7,500,000 -$6,850,000 -$6,650,000 -$7,500,000 for an at best average forward? No thanks, and especially in this finicial climate as others have mentioned. I think we can get a better player for that kind of money.
