He is right behind Wilt Chamberlain, both extremely dominant centers

I very much like Shaq.

That being said ---- he's no Wilt Chamberlain.

I like Shaq a lot too, though I rooted against him the entire time he was on the Lakers.  I've defended Shaq in many debates throughout his career.  It's amazing how many people think Shaq is good only because of his size.  That's ridiculous.  If that is true, then Mark Eaton would be an alltime great.

only if they would have allowed him to get away with murder.  Lets see, his only move is to use his weight to push the defender under the basket and then dunk or throw a little baby hook from 2ft. Guy never cared enough about FT to be good at them,  and the 3 second rule never applied to him. Never mind the fact that he was crowned by stern as the next superstar before he played his forst season. Im just wondering what celtic fans would think of a guy who calls out Tommy for not voting for him while getting his rookie of the year award, becasue thats exactly what that cocky sob did. >:(

I totally disagree.  Not to say that that Shaq wouldn't have done well, but Wilt dominated everything.

1)
The best rebounds per year that Shaq has had is 13.85 in the 92/93 season (143rd on the list of best rebounding seasons, with 5 active players ahead of him).

Chamberlain had 10 seasons averaging 20+ rebounds per game (with no one ahead of him)

2)
Shaq currently has an 11.3 rebound per game average, putting him 21st on the all time career average list. (only active player ahead of him is Tim Duncan, with KG slightly behind him).

Chamberlain has 10 of the top 20 seasons. (no one ahead of him)

3)
As for scoring, Shaq's best season rates 70th on the all time list (behind 8 current players).

Chamberlain has 5 of the top 6 seasons, 7 of the top 20. (behind no one)

Conclusion)
Shaq is a top 10 center, Chamberlain is the greatest center ever and if not the greatest player ever, he's in the top 3 with Jordan and Oscar Robertson.

Yup, Shaq's a great player, and I've come around on his personality since he left the Lakers, and now enjoy the gleeful nonsense that comes out of his mouth on a regular basis.

But he's no Wilt, this era or next.  He probably had enough talent to be close if he had really focused on his rebounding and shotblocking, but it is what it is.  That's why his old "Most Dominant Ever" talk always made me laugh - sorry, no one dominated like Russell when it came to titles, and no one dominated like Wilt when it came to individual performance.

And if Tommy didn't vote for him for ROY, well, Tommy was dead wrong and probably holding some kind of grudge.  That's no knock on Tommy, I love him like everyone else does, but we all know he's not the most neutral observer at times.

Shaq had absolutely incredible footwork.  He was the first one down the court on the fastbreak a lot of times in his younger days.  Nobody is a good basketball player purely on size and strength and the cooperation of the refs.  I could give so many examples of physical specimens who are absolute stiffs on the court.  So by your reasoning, you must think that DeSangana Diop would average 30pts/game and go down as one of the alltime greats if only the refs and Stern were on his side?  Thats ridiculous.

I don't believe that Wilt could put up those numbers playing the same era Shaq did.

I dont think Tommy was holding a grudge, rather he saw him as a talentless big man that relied on one move. Shaq was very arrogant and could have shown some respect for a guy who played the game before he was even born.

He will be rememberd for one thing and thats dunking the ball and that is it. Take away some weight and he's not able to push defenders out of the way to put it down. I watched him in his early years and could never figure out why people thought he was such a great player with one move. Did he put up points, of course he did, but he did it by just being big rather than using any sort of skill.

I don't either, it would be foolish to think so.  However, he dominated his era and Shaq has not dominated his (he dominated a few years, but not an era).

Wilt is the most dominant offense presence in the history of the NBA.

That being said if you look at Wilts best years, when he averaged 50 a game, he attempted 40 shots per game with a .506 FG%.

The most attempts per game Shaq had was 21, and he led the league in scoring. Shaq's .582 career FG% is second all-time, just imagine if he took 30+ shots per game? what would those numbers look like?
