I haven't seen a topic on this yet, but looks like Celtic alum Wally is taking a break . . .

http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/9350662/Szczerbiak-could-miss-3-weeks-with-knee-injury

I'm never thankful when a player is injured, but for the ramifications (vis-a-vis Celts-Cavs) I'm looking for you guys to help me figure out what to think about this.

Well, I am surprised he has played this many regular season games so far.

With Wally, its just a matter of time.  You can pencil him in to sit 30-40 games most seasons.

I'm impressed with the Cavs. They've had more injuries than the Celtics and still have the best record.

Lebron is on a mission.

Right we're really injured right now. But look at the Cavs:

Ben Wallace has missed 14 games and is out for the rest of the reg season
Zydrunas Ilgauskas 16
Delonte West 18
Sasha Pavlovic (9, sprained ankle)
Daniel Gibson (5, bruised toe)
Now Wally goes down.

Celtics:
Garnett 15 + maybe 2-3 more
Tony Allen - half the season
Rondo 2
Perkins 4
Davis 6
Scal - half the season (if everyone was healthy he wouldn't be playing though)

We're just getting hit all at once.

Wally may not be able to guard a chair but if he's on he spaces and spreads the floor well for Lebron.

fair enough, except scal would be playing if everyone was healthy, scal was very helpful before he got injured

thats exactly the thing though the celtics are being hit all at once.  For everyone thats saying that the Celtics need to stop using injuries as an excuse since every team has its injuries I counter that with well your team did not get hurt all at once.  We have 8 healthy guys right now.  I dont think there is a team in the league that can say that at some point this season they had 8 healthy guys.  Sure everyone has injuries you might miss Big Z for a while but thats one guy not half your team.  The Celtics have shown that they can win with one or two guys out of the lineup.  But when you lose half your roster everything switches there are free minutes that people that dont start have to play so now everyone is tired.  Therefore, production goes down.  I give the Celtics all the credit in the world for showing heart in these games.  I am getting rather upset by the losses but their rotations and roster siutation is so much more out of the ordinary than any other teams this year.  Like I said no team in the league can say that they were missing nearly half their roster for an extended period of time.
The NBA..where "this whole sport is a business and the referees decide games and David Stern is a snake and is only in this for the money" happens.

thats why I dont understand all the doom and gloom on this board as of late. We have enough time for the guys to get healthy by the time the playoffs start. nce we get healthy w/o new injuries, we will be rested and fresh and ready to roll throught the playoffs. I for one still feel very good about our chances. Now if we get another string just before they start, then my feelings change.  >:(

how have they had more injuries then the celtics? Lebron has played almost every game or has, ben wallace is a bum, that actually helped them that he got hurt.

And its even worse because half of the injured players play the same position. And they've had to play a couple of games without 2 starters. That's a lot to deal with but its great as a fan to see them fighting through and I'm happy no one got hurt tonight.

You saw this post, right? The Cavs have had 3 starters miss considerable time.  Also, if you think the Cavs got better by losing one of their only interior defenders, then you're smoking some crack.

There's a huge difference between losing D West for a while, getting him back, then losing Pavlovic for a while, then getting him back, then getting someone else out for a while, then getting them back, then losing you're fifth best starter for the regular season and now your third guy off the bench for a stint and losing over one third of your roster all within a matter of 5-7 games and have to play weeks at a time without one of your top 2 players and then compound that by also loosing your 3rd and 4th best players for times when that player is out.

Cleveland's injuries have been fairly spaced out compared to Boiston's that have happen almost all at the same time with upto 5 players out for many, many games in a row. That's a gigantic difference. Boston has been decimated with injuries all at once. Cleveland was inconvenienced with injuries for most of the year. I think there is no comparison.

I agree no comparison. And having foul trouble plaguing the few players left in a lot of these games is also not helping. You'd think the refs would cut an injured team some slack.

OT: My twin got assaulted last night by a drunk Magic fan I was arguing with about that 3 second call. Usually I'm really sympathetic when teams get the Cavs treatment but I just had to tell him to stuff it considering the Magic got on a call like that going their way against the Celtics. Thank you NBA refs for giving a fan the gift of violence ::)
