Okay, I don't want to sound like I'm kicking a guy when he's down, so can someone explain to me why Doc would put Marbury in for defense and take out Perk? Was it not obvious that even if the Bulls were to miss, which they did, that the Celtic were at a disadvantage as  getting the rebound? I even mentioned this to my son, and sure enough Miller went over Rondo for the rebound, easy basket, game over. I really don't onderstand the logic in this at all. I could maybe see Walker, but Marbury, he's not known for his D.

Seriously, can someone help me understand why?

I was very confused by that one as well.  In general, I think Doc did a great job last night to do try to keep his team in the game...including going to the smallball lineup with about 6 minutes left (give or take), since they weren't stopping anyone anyways, and at least they could try to get a couple turnovers, and turn up the pressure.

But putting in Marbury for that one play completely confused me.  I don't know if Doc just had a brain fart, not realizing Miller was in there, or if he actually thought it would work, but it was confusing.

If you can figure it out, let me know.

The only thing i can think of, and its one of my peeves about doc, is that he rarley subs a guy in for just a short time.

This particularly ****es me off with rookies when we have 12-15 point leads. thats the time you can take out one, mabey even two starters and get the kids in. you have timeouts. if the other team suddenly goes on a 5-0 run, time out and reinsert.

but doc has always liked to stick with a  lineup for at least 3-5 minutes once its on the floor, even when its clearly not working.

If this was baseball, Doc would be the ultimate anti-quick hook. although, if you played poorly adn you come out, your done for the night heh.

That doesn't match though.  Perk was in, but Doc actually pulled him for the defensive trip, in favor of Marbury I believe.

The only thing I can think is Doc was planning more for the offensive trip, hoping to be able to force a stop, and then be able to get the ball up quick on offense and get a shot quickly without calling a timeout.  This would make sense offensively, since with your only big man being Perk, it is much tougher to get stuck in the half-court offense, than if you are able to run and get the defense retreating...I just think it was asking a lot for them to get a stop with Pierce (with 5 fouls) covering Miller.

I had no problem with the small ball when Thomas was the Bulls only big man and Moore and Powe were out.

But once Miller came in, took advantage on offense but never hurt them on defense, it became clear that Perk was needed to match up with him (which the Celtics did after a quick timeout)

But the small ball defense with the need for just one stop and Miller in there, I just can't understand it.  There is a TO in the pocket.  Perk is the best rebounder left and one of the better defenders.

I just don't understand why he is taken out.

Perkins played a lot of minutes in second half due to Moore fouling out. Maybe Doc saw his slowing down on rotation and decided he needed a rest.

I felt Walker should have started 3rd to save Moore and give Perk rest. Unfortunately, starting the 3rd with Moore ended with the obvious foul out.

I have thought the same about the Mikki Moore minutes as many of you.  He is used to playing what...15-18 minutes tops?  If he has to play more, Doc will have to play him according to his fouls (that he is used to giving out at a much more regular clip than any starter would).

I agree that moore can help us in 15 minutes a game roles.  Let him work his butt off when he's in, box out, run the floor hard and use fouls WISELY.  I'd think at this point though he is a vet and should be smart enough to know that if he & perk are the ONLY bigs he would not foul every time he breathes

He had already had a rest. Resting him on a defensive stand with under a minute to go is just not the right time to rest anyone.
