Would you rather have Mikki and Stephon or PJ and Sam in a run for the 18th banner?

No intent to draw conclusions from the stats below, but I thought it might be interesting to take a peak at how Stephon and Mikki are doing compared to Sam and PJ.

I just looked at PJ's and Sam's regular season totals after joining the C's compared to Mikki's and Stephon's totals with the C's to date -- so number of games aren't apples to apples. Also looked at Sam's and PJ's playoff stats to compare their production from Reg season to playoffs.

I expect Marbury to show significant improvement and it's likely that Moore will see fewer minutes with the bigs returning and thus less production.

Interesting to recall that Sam faded a bit in the playoffs and that PJs stats (other than FG%) declined.  Though he did hit a big one!

Thoughts?

Sam
17 Games  17.6 Minutes   7.6 points(39%)    2.1 assists   .5 steals
Stephon
8 Games     16.9 Minutes   3.4 points(32%)  2.9 Assists   .38 Steals

PJ
18 Games 11.6 Minutes   2.2 Points(34%)   3.8 Rebounds   .4 Blocks
Mikki
9 Games    15.8 Minutes   4.3 Points(55%)   3.1 rebounds   .22 Blocks

Sam in the playoffs
21 games  12.6 minutes   4.5 points(33%)   1.2 assists   .4 steals

PJ in the playoffs
25 Games  13.6 Minutes   2.9 points(46%)   2.4 rebounds   .4 Blocks

I never actually looked at Sam and PJ's stats. Statistically we have an upgrade.

Stephon is already starting to look better than Sam. I expect Stephon to be even better by the time the playoffs start.

Mikki will be able to give us a jumpshot in the 2nd unit, and hopefully his help D will improve. Thats where his length can help with deflections.

Also Powe and Davis are better. So...

Stephon >> Sam
Powe 09, Davis 09, Moore > Powe 08, Davis 08, Brown

But Walker, (Scal, TA if they come back) << Posey

Then again...

Rondo 09 >> Rondo 08

So if healthy, we could have a better team than last year.

PJ Brown hit a big shot or two in the playoffs last year, but let's not get carried away. He was blah in most of the minutes he saw. His jumper was inconsistent and often times flat. His defense was always a plus, but there were a few occassions when he'd come into the game and the opposition would rally back from being down. This happened a couple times when PJ entered the game for the first time during the Hawks series, and the Hawks were able to use his lack of lateral quickness and experience to their advantage.

Mikki to me has the athletic advantage, and he is even better in terms of hitting the outside shot. Defensively he may be inferior, but he's quickly improving under the Celtics system as far as I can see.

Stephon has way more potential than Cassell did heading into the playoffs. This guy showed me a few nights ago where he kept dropping buckets and throwing dimes to Moore and Perkins that he can be the best player on the floor. He can score, pass, and run an offense like nobody else when he's committed to doing just that. You can't say that about most players. Cassell was totally broken down by the time he got here. Marbury still has maybe half tank.

I think Stephon and Mikki no contest, but the key for them is consistency.

Would you rather have Mikki and Stephon or PJ and Sam?

This year we are depending on Mikki and Stephon to provide more than what Sam and PJ did last year.

So far not so much has been positive. But the two new additions are not able to play off of our full healthy roster so they have that going for them.
