Mike Wright: 4 yrs, $7.5M

Galloway: one year deal (awaiting confirmation) confirmed

My take: seems a bit pricey for Mike Wright, but not too bad, and good to have him back.  Galloway is low risk, high reward at this point, given the Pats' depth at WR (Moss, Welker, Gregg Lewis, Sam Aiken and now Joey Galloway).

i was thinking they'd sign galloway he's the perfect third receiver for this team. he can do a little bit of everything, can handle the deep ball, strong, experienced, good hands, super bowl winner. like this very much.

Wright is a good signing.  I dont think the price is too steep.  He plays a big role on Special teams.  He also has the flexibility to play numerous defensive positions (and well enough that he is a top backup at all of them).  Should something happen injury wise or with wilfork or seymour contract wise, he would be able to step right in.

Galloway is also an interesting signing.  I think he will likely beat Greg Lewis out as the 3rd WR.

What was wrong with Torrey Holt?  He's younger and better than Galloway.

Bill Belichick has long had a thing for older men.

My guess is that Holt was looking for significantly more money, and a bigger role than Galloway at this point.  I think Holt is still a top 2 reciever on a lot of teams, and he will likely be paid that way.

Galloway at best gives them a one dimensional deep threat who doesnt block. I dont see him getting on the field. A move for depth mostly

Matt Williamson of Scouts Inc., likes the move.

Joey Galloway, Writing on Tim Graham's AFC East blog on ESPN.com, Williamson opines:In New England, Galloway is going to run a lot of streak and post routes -- and often against single coverage. The other teams in the AFC East are not particularly deep at the cornerback position. Galloway is still capable of abusing average cover men when he is healthy and fresh. Needless to say, Brady is not bashful about throwing the long ball and few do it as well. Expect big plays. This signing is just one more reason why I expect to see the Patriots back in a huge way in 2009.

He was hurt last year but he had recieved for 1000+ yards the 3 years before that and is still one of the fastest WR in the league. At best he will see the field alot and is one of the best #3 WR's in the league as long as he is healthy. Him being just a depth guy and not really playing is closer to worst case scenerio, im thinking you are seriously underrating him or are not aware of how good he can and has been.

Absolutely absurd.

Galloway visited with the Steelers after the Patriots and they were confident he still had game breaking speed...

You know better than the Super Bowl champion's scouts though.

Joey Galloway was widely regarded as the fastest guy to play in the NFL...and might still be that. Darrell Green said he's the only guy he couldn't catch.

If the Pats and Steelers want him, he can play. End of story. They are the elite organizations in the NFL at scouting and acquiring talent.

Hey I hope I'm wrong I'm just tempering my enthusiasm for a guy with one skill...being a deep threat. Then again Randy Moss came in with a similar skill set (in addition to height, freakish athleticism, and a sixth sense for the ball) and went on to improve in many areas of the game upon arrival. I just dont see him staying healthy enough at his age. I would have liked a guy like Torry Holt who is more dynamic but he was probably too expensive. Anyway, I am aware of the type of player Galloway is. He has great natural gifts and hopefully he can take what is left in the tank and expand his game to really contribute to this team. Im just not holding my breath.

but this isnt Madden and you cant just sign the best players.  I think very few people would argue that Holt isnt the better WR.  But given salary issues and the fact that we dont need a high priced 3rd wr, Galloway is a better fit.

Galloway is MUCH MUCH MUCH better then the guy he is replacing (Jabar Gafney).

Not a bad deal for Mike Wright, I think when used correctly he does real well. He played much better at nose two years ago than he did last year at end. The games he subbed in for Ty Warren he was getting blown off the ball and teams were running all over his gap. Great 3rd down pass rusher at DT. Always great to see a undrafted FA get a nice little contract like that.

On the Galloway signing I think its brilliant. He is much more than a deep threat guy. Two years ago he had 1,200 yds for TB. He will benifit a lot from double teams on Moss and Welker. Interesting that when going 4 wide the Pats will have 4 fast guys in Welker, Moss, Lewis, and Galloway.

Could Stallworth do that much more than run deep routes?

Honestly, with the Pats current recieving corp (including their RB's and TE's), what they really needed was a second deep threat that defenses needed to honor.  I think Galloway was a great, cheap pickup.
