Marbury...PENETRATE!!!!!

As I watch these games I am getting more and more eager to see Marbury get some dribble penetration going.  He's done it only a handful of times since he has joined the team and been successful dishing the rock and has finished a few decent layups.  Is it just me or is he tentative to drive to the basket?  Is it that he is worrying about being too selfish? What are your opinions on this?

i'm guessing marbury is a little tentative. he'll get it. he knows he takes one bad shot and the media comes crashing down on him. he's just gatta get comfortable in my opinion. he still does'nt know where to be all the time just yet.

His desire to show that he is not selfish and his approval of the "pass first, shoot later" mentality are obviously dissuading him from penetrating. However he did penetrate against the Cavs yesterday, and I thought that he was going to make the basket but he changed his mind (or was already decided) and made a pass to Mikki Moore at the last time. It was a pretty play, and it would be nice to see him do that often.

Also, it could give him his confidence back, because he's still rusty. I've noticed that every time Marbury is wide open in the corner for a three pointer, the ball-handler, who sees him well, never gives him the ball, probably because his shoot is not "safe".

So yes, it would be cool to see Marbury penetrate often, either way to score or to make a nice dish. But he's got plenty of time to readapt physically to the game and to learn the Celtics' systems!

He spoke to this in the Globe this morning:

"I probably need about another week where I can just get my legs under me," Marbury said. "Once I start getting my legs under me, that's when I'll start getting to the paint. My legs are limiting my drives. That's a big part of my game, my legs."

There you have it.  I agree, once he gets back to 100%, penetration will be a big asset to the Celts.

Perfect timing for that interview with the Globe! I can't wait until Marbury does get his legs under him because once he does and utilizes his ability to penetrate he is going to make this bench that much better.  We've had glimpses of it in his limited minutes with the team so far.  That dish to Mikki Moore last night had me up out of my seat just GORGEOUS.  Pierce's post game interview last night when he said that the minutes and confidence the bench is getting is really going to help them down the stretch was exactly what I wanted him to say.  Our bench is gaining confidence with each game and it is obvious.  They play like this from here on in with Marbury firing on all cylinders we are a dangerous team.

Yeah, if Marbury can learn to penetrate again, he'll open up the lane more and be able to make more plays like he did to Moore, or possibly be able to make layups himself. I know he can do at least that, even if he can't jumpshoot.

drive and dish...marbury said he is about a week out from getting his legs back to where he can do this more..it will be nice to get scal, marbury and KG all back or up to speed

Give him a few more games to get his legs under him and to get to know his teammates tendencies and the system better. Right now he's over thinking and trying very hard to fit in. When he is in more game shape he'll get over this and we'll really get to see what he can do. Give him a couple of weeks.

ive noticed hes had a lane alot. maybe he just doesnt wanna look like a ballhog?
